Which 2 - Cycle Racing Oil is Best?
« on: July 22, 2010, 01:30:40 PM »
You see all these ads in magazines and on T.V. about racing oils, but the true question still remains: Which brand is best? There's Bel Ray, Ams Oil Dominator, Lucas Oil, etc. The only problem is that if I want maximum performance out of my bike which oil should I get? And if mixing the oil at a certain ratio (Between 50:1 and 32:1) makes a difference, than what would be better? It probably matters what bike you have but 2 stroke race bikes are still 2 strokes and lot's of the mini's use recycled technology from the big bikes. So in a sense they are all similar, so there has to be one kind of oil that is the overall best for 2 stroke bikes. Just which one to choose...?

There was a thread awhile back about oils.
You can go on for ever about which is best. :-\
Just buy the best you can afford and jet the bike to suit.
And stick with it.

Yep, what the Kiwi said. Some oils are insanely priced and i dont think are any better than something that may be $5-10 cheaper.

We used to run spectro sx way back when but have been running super m for a few years at 32:1 and had no problems at all.

I have been running YamahaLube 2R at 32:1 for a few years and really like it. The only bike I have had any issues with is my nephew's CR80. But that bike was jetted insanely rich. I dropped the pilot two sizes and raised the clip up a notch and it stopped fouling plugs but it still gets "spooge" out of the exhaust tip.

Over the past winter I had Max Power do a big bore on my Honda. To my suprise they recomend Yamalube as well. Also they recomended 32:1.stating oil is cheap engine parts are not. I also agree pick a flavor jet for it and stick with it. I switch oil once on an old Kawasaki I had and it refused to run right.

Not a good idea to mix different types of oils. >:D
Synthetic and mineral oils dont mix well together.
If you are in the middle of no where and have no choice it wont kill the bike , But its not a good idea.

YZ250 Assuming you are asking about pre-mix for a YZ-250 I would use Yamalube premix or whatever your bike manual recommends, which is probably yamalube. However in the past I've had good luck with Golden Spectro and Maxima but now since I own a KTM and my manual recommends Motorex at a 60 to 1 ratio thats what I use,but I actually mix it 50 to 1 because to me 60 to 1 is too lean.
