2010 YZ250 Set up part 2
« on: July 10, 2010, 11:20:35 PM »
Hey guys,
a while back when I picked up my new bike i started a thread about the bike ergos....yada yada.

Well I got her set up the way I like, and this thing is great. best handling bike I have ever ridden, It turns quick and precise, Its smooth in the rough slow stuff, and takes big hits really well.
the stock engine is the best off road power plant I have had the pleasure to ride.

mods list
IMS 3.2 gallon tank
race tech springs .46 front, 5.2 rear
Scott's damper
fmf turbine core spark arrestor.

I really don't think the bike needs any engine mods for my riding style, It chugs down low if I make a mistake, and the mid and top are strong enough for my advanced age.

So I feel kinda silly for complaining about the set up earlier, It just took me a while to sort it out. I highly recommend the new yz250 for hare and hound racing. 8)

No reason for that.It takes me at least a season, and sometimes more,to get a new bike figured out and set exactly how I like it-and it's always worth the effort.Good for you.Now how about a shipping it here for a test ride so I can evaluate your work :D
I'd rather a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy.

For SoCal desert and mountain riding (Sand, Rocks, hard pack, More Rocks, Bigger Rocks...) My favorite so far is Dunlop MX51 front and MX71 rear. for dry conditions.
I have tried d745, d739 and 606 front.

I also really like the pirelli scorpions on the cr500.

So you went up from the stock 0.43 and 4.9 springs?  Damn, thats stiff.  Isnt that 3 levels up on both ends?  I know MXA recommended a 5.0 spring for riders over 200ibs.... I cant imagine a 5.2 rear.

I weigh 220, and went with Race Tech's recommendations.
They have set up 3 other bikes for me and are always spot on.
I punched in 200 pound rider into Race Tech's calculator, and MXA is not far off, But based on many years of great service from Race Tech I will continue to follow their advise.
My son weighs 170 and hates to ride my bikes due to them being way over sprung.
