Having some kick starter pin issues...
« on: July 25, 2012, 02:01:54 AM »
I'm at my wits end with my kick starter. The pin the holds the lever on the collar of the kickstarter shaft keeps giving out. It keeps denting, or chipping and then failing when I kick the engine over, falling off usually. Where can I get a better pin? Or a harder one? There are no threads inside the hole where the pin goes, so my guess is someone drilled it out, but the hole is tapered so maybe not. Any guesses?

No can do :( My camera that I had was on my laptop that is owned by my school, so I don't get it back until September. The hole where the pin goes is big enough to put a steel bolt standard size into it, I believe 7/16. I'm not sure if that would help determine if it is stock or not.

Or if anyone has a 92 kick start lever assembly picture and part number list, I can't find it on the internet, all I can find is 250f and 00 and on part diagrams...

Thanks for the parts diagram  ;D I couldn't find one for the life of me online. And two weird things here, on my kick start lever, there are no threads inside, so I think someone drilled it out. And, there is a big spring on the kick crank that isn't shown in the diagram, so I'm probably going to remove that  :<img src=" title="Roll Eyes" class="smiley"> It's on the piece that the lever fits over, and as far as I can tell, serves no purpose.

Could you drill right thru., use a 6mm bolt and put a NYLOCK nut on the other side?

Well the thing with that is, it is already thick enough to put a bolt and nut through it. I put a grade 8 steel bolt and nut through it to see if that would stop it from chipping, but it didn't.

Scroll down to the start tab  on the left hand side and you should have all the things you need there. I may have misinterpreted what you're saying though and apologies in advance if thats useless. Good luck

No worries, I would've done the same thing. If you replace one part there might be something else in there thats dodgey wrecking the new part and ultimately costing more anyway.

Yeah, that's what I figured. The lever didn't fit nicely over the shaft, so it was dodgy from the begining.
