New season
« on: February 13, 2010, 07:41:21 PM »
Hi John
The Florida Motocross series starts Tomorrow 2-14-10. Jake's first year on on 125. I'm a little nervous but good news,They have  new classes Instead of 125 and 250 class they changed it to 125 two stroke only,250,450 we might be racing in two classes this year. I will let you know how it goes and if the 125 two stroke only class is full or not. I did notice that at our local track they had alot of two strokes practicing the other night, we hadnt been to in a couple months. Good to see!

I'd rather a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy.

Sorry it took so long. First it was COLD!! frost on the ground it rained all day Friday, Saturday practice was canceled but the track was in good shape. Jake ran 4 races last year in the 250D class and won two on them. This year he moved up to the 250C class a big move for him he seamed alittle bit intimidated. There were 18 riders first moto start he was mid pack a few went down and he was about 10th then he faded anf finished 16th. Not to happy but showed him a few areas to do things different. Told him to race the track and when a faster guy got by him try to stick with him. So second Moto start was a little worse but rode alot harder this time he didnt lose the pack but was at the rear he finished 15th for 15th overall. The winner was on a KX250 twostroke. Also the 125 twostroke only class only had four riders but hope it becomes more popular Jake said he would be to tired to run two classes( He spent all day Saturday Surfing) but in a coule weeks will do it. Next race will be in Orlando at Bithlo, James Stewart's home track when he was an amateur. Will try to post some pics soon.  Bill

that sounds like the turn outs we get out in NORCAL. There have been a few times when weve had as many as 10-15 but on average i'd say about 5 is what we get. although we dont get the turnouts we used to get 5 yrs ago. i remember getting 40-50+ novices and now were lucky to see 30 in one moto

The weather was threating Sunday but we got both motos in before the rain. Unfortunately we beat the rain from a low turn out.We have been racing this series for four years and this was the lowest turn out I've seen. I heard the promoter say there was only 190 riders! If any one from Florida is reading this come on out and race you will have fun and maybe save one of the states best series! Now back to the races I also saw a lot of two strokes more than ever. The people next to us were racing a steel frame YZ250 and was very competitive. In the 250 C class Jakes class out of 11 riders there were 4 or 5 two strokes. We had a combind class 250C class with 11 riders and  250B with 4 riders. I got tied up at work and we didnt practice Saturday so we left Sunday at 5:45 AM and made it there at 8:25 and missed his practice so he went out with the 450's. They redesigned the track from last year Jake liked it but only got 3 laps on it. First Moto start Jake was even into the first turn and he backed off a little and it cost him. He held on to the pack but came in 11th. We went in the bleachers and watched some of the other races and we talked about what he has to do to do better. I told him he can't coast anywhere. I reminded him that in his last D class race that he won he hit all of the jumps and got the hole shot and reminded him if he didnt do this in that race he would have finished 4th or 5th and the C class riders are faster. So second moto much better start went into the first turn about 8th held for a while got passed and then passed back and finished 10th  so we got alittle improvement . This has been harder than I thought but were hanging in there. Next race his best friend will be back so lets hope that helps.
