The names "2T" and "4T"?
« on: April 15, 2011, 07:05:38 AM »
I have a really dumb question.  So dumb, I think it's going to degrade the collective IQ of this entire forum.

I know 2T stands for two-stroke, and 4T, four...  But where on earth does the "T" come from?!

I've been out of the sport for about 5 years.  Never saw that abbreviation prior - now it seems to be common terminology. I'm perplexed.

for a portuguese guy like me sounds ok, because 2t for us is 2tempos (tempo=stroke).

in english, i don't know why to use a "T", it should be 2S and 4S..

don't know!

gonna burn some gas/oil/clutch! later..

Not a stupid question at all. ;D
You guys are right. In english it should be 2S & 4S.
I think "tempo" is the Italian version as well.

I stands for "Takt Time"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Takt_time

However, you could say "Turns"  2 turns and  4 turns as well, however the real root is Takt Time.

I always just figured it was flat-out based on "takt" because the dudes up in Scandinavialand have always been pretty hardcore about MX, particularly in the old days when you'd have Husqvarna factory riders going out into the untamed wilderness at dark o'clock in the morning and not coming back until it was dark o'clock at night.

However, I think it might be a good idea to start using the 'S' notation, because that way we can refer to them as 2S and 4$.

Is this Maico a 440 or only a 400?  Well in all the confusion, I forgot myself.
But considering this is a 1978 Magnum, the best-handling bike in the world, you have to ask yourself one question.
Do you feel lucky, punk?

It's 'Tempi' in Italian and Spanish, Takt in German/Dutch/Swedish , Temp in French

4$ funny JETZ
If a pair of 2" brass balls isn't working, I doubt that the 3" model will make much difference.

Doesn't work well because of the 2S.  Should be "Two Cycle"  so I pose 2C and 4$ :)  or back to 2T and 4$

I meant "2S" as in "2 Stroke."
