plastic cover

hey guys on my 08 rm 250 there is a black removable plastic cover under the seat just above the air filter does it make any difference if i remove it whats it for thanks

I got a new rm250 in january and wondered the same thing, i think its to stop too much dust getting onto the air filter, I still use it, there wont be any power gains if you take it off, and suzuki must have a reason for putting it there

Sounds like it's for wet weather use, most people remove them to increase air flow. It can be refitted for those quagmire wet days to try and reduce the amount of water entering your airbox.

I'd keep it on if it's particularly dusty or muddy. (primarily muddy, cause that cover can stop a lot of mud but dust is just.. dust) And i'd take it off to maximize air flow on days when the track is perfect. No dust or mud, just nice soft slightly damp loamy dirt.

I was perusing my '00 RM250 service manual this weekend, and it calls it something like an airbox-top-cover.  They say to leave it on, or it may alter your jetting.  (that can be taken for what it's worth, being written from the manufacturers standpoint.)

I do leave mine in place - my bike is a bit louder without it, and I like that it keeps mud or junk from falling directly onto the filter.
