DK wins NZGP on YZ
« on: February 23, 2011, 07:28:03 PM »
Yep the old dog won another title filling in for his injured younger brother for Yamaha NZ (the team he runs ).
Racing in the MX2 class he went 1-3 to win the title on his YZ250. ;D
Not sure if it is a reflection on the other riders or not but good to see anyway.

Here are some quote's from the latest DRD mag.

"Competing at Woodville as a fill in rider for the injured Damien King, DK won himself another NZ GP Title, aboard a bike that technically shouldn't be out front.
Obviously Lance Armstrong was correct when he said "it's not about the bike".
DK took his YZ250 two-stroke to a third and first placings, beating out the best of the best MX2 riders in NZ.
And thats literally years after his retirement."

"I like watching DK ride his two-stroke around 'factory riders' on their far from stock four-strokes."

First race. " DK was next on his 250 two-stroke which was a very welcome sound."

I am curious what Yamaha think about their team manager beating everyone on a 2 stroke ?

He was real good here when he rode in the lites championship on the YZ 250. There are plenty of real quick kids in the lites class there, and it is definitely an accomplishment for him to win. Shows how talented the guy is. Awesome to see from DK. Absolute legend of the sport !!

You would have kids flocking to the 2-strokes if they were allowed in the pros. They should be flocking to them anyway IMO just to get the Amatuer titles.

This was posted by Darryll King on Holeshot here at home. There is a missprint so am not 100% sure if he is saying he is quicker or slower.

Hi everyone, Thanks for your feedback on the NZ MX Scene and myself still competing.

We have a lot of talent in this country and i see no problems with our current crop of riders. Just give them some more time to gain the finishing touches and they will soon be smoking all the old guys.

I have done my 25 years as a PRO racer, i still ride nearly everyday. My MXDK Motocross training is busier than ever, so im able to ride with young riders almost everyday. Racing overseas still gives me the chance to learn all the new tricks and I have learnt so much recently while racing and practising in the USA last year while i was over for the US Grand Prix. There will be a time that age catches up with you and an athelete gets slower, For me that time is getting close however at Woodville i rode faster than i have over my 42 years.

I would prefer to ride a YZ250 Four stroke. Every time i get on one of the team bikes i am 0.5 to 1.5 seconds per lap compared to my YZ250 2 stroke. The good thing about the 2 stroke is it suits my lifestyle. It is low maintanance, so reliable and after working all day, spending time with my family, sleeping and eating i dont have much time left.

After winning my 61st National tittle at Woodville this year I am looking forward to being Team manager for Rockstar Yamaha during the upcoming Motocross Championships. Having riders like Josh Coppins, Hayden Clarke, Ethan Martens and Damian King riding for our team is pretty cool. Im really looking forward to cheering everyone on during the four rounds series. Id rather be racing on my YZ250 and going head to head with Burger and DH but i have a job to do for the other riders on the team. I will have my chance to race again sometime soon, probaly in Holland or USA in April and May.

All the best to everyone competing in the Motocross Championships this year. There will be some surprises and upsets. The strongest and most determined riders will win unless lady luck decides to play a part. In motor racing never say never! See you at the races. DK

This was posted 1 month ago and since then he has done 2 rounds of the MX2 championship and is leading the class ahead of Aussies Daniel McCoy & Cody Mackie.
Round 1 he went 5-3-2.
2nd round 1-2-2.
It was good listening to the announcers talking about how everyone kept saying the 2 stroke was dead and here it is leading the championship. Classic.  ;D. The announcers are old school.

In the second race he was 14th into the first corner after making a stuff up but passed everyone up to 2nd. His second to last lap was 2 seconds quicker then anyone else the whole race. The track was hardpack as well.
If you don't fall off you are not going hard enough

Thanks for the update TM. It seems to me that Darryl King claims to be faster on a 250F, which to me is very surprising. He would obviously have been riding the team Yamaha 250F's, as a comparison to his almost standard YZ250, but even still, a guy his size, I would have thought the 250F would just not have the ponies to pull him around as quick. At least he admits he doesnt have time to look after a 250F if that was what he was riding !!! Hopefully he can snare the first motocross championship for a two stroke in 2011.

How much HP would a factory 250f have tho. I was thinking if they could get it somewhere near the two stroke it would be very competitive. Maybe the reason pros in countries outside the usa have not flocked to the two stroke is cos the 4 stroke can get similar power and when you aren't paying for the rebuild and maintenance then who cares

i was asking a FACTORY 250f. i know what a standard one puts out but if DK was comparing a FACTORY 250f to his 250 2T it would be interesting to see just how much difference the power would be
