See thats what im worried about too..is a 250 being to much for me, because im not even considered a fast 125 rider. I cant afford a 250f though.

In case you missed it...

Four strokes are good learner bikes. That's their only good feature imho. But even though youre using it as a learning bike, it will still negatively impact you more than you think. You will develop bad habits, get lazy. Your line choice will be poor. A two stroke has the option to take many many lines a four stroke can't take. You just joined the conga line my friend. You just can't beat the snappy flickable explosive 2t.

I agree. 4 strokes WILL teach you bad habbits but I think a 250f is alot less likely to teach you those habbits compared to a 450. You still have to "work" to make a 250f go fast unlike a 450. In a way I can see a 250f being a good stepping stone to a 250 twostroke because alot of people (me included) find the transition from a 125 to a 250 very drastic. It was like going from a Honda Civic to a Corvette for me  :D  I was still riding the C class at the time also so my experience could have made it seem worse than it really was though.

Its no secret that Im not 100% against 4 strokes but there is no way I would ever purchase a used 250f (talk about a time bomb). If you cant afford a new one or (atleast a very low hour one), I wouldnt risk my life riding it. I would just opt for the 250 2t and be careful.

I agree with you on some of that snook, im not 100% against 4 strokes. As a 17 year old kid though, i cant afford to buy a brand new 250f, and cant afford the consequences of buying a used ticking time bomb. I think you pretty much answered me 125 or 250 question right there. I wouldnt even consider myself a midpack C rider yet, so I think its obvious I shouldnt be on a 250 yet. Theres a nice 2006 cr125 that a gy wants to sell me for 1800, but I have heard they dont have near as good of engines and the yz125s do, so im not sure which I will get.

It wasnt all bad for me. In alot of ways a bigger bike (250 2 stroke) is easier to ride....but when you get tired late in the moto, or get a lil wisky throttle between some jumps it can be very dangerous if your not ready for it.

I love the newer cr125s, I raced an 05 for a while and it handled awesome. I say grab the 06

I would try and talk the guy down a bit on the cr125 and buy that beauty. I think the cr125 should have plenty of power.

Yes, YZ does have a better engine. Wider powerband so easier to ride. But no reason to avoid CR because of that, difference is not that big.
Biggest advance YZ 125 have (my opinion) is suspension. Yamahas from 2006 onwards have SSS suspension which is really good. CR 125's have older model open chamber KYB's, which are good but not in SSS level.
All in all, CR is sure good enough stock to grab some C-level trophies :)
And CR's best part is reliability. It just simply last and last and last ..... even with little maitenance ;)

man you can tone down a 250 2st, flywheel weight, extra base gasket, big dent in the expansion chamber. shall I continue??
If a pair of 2" brass balls isn't working, I doubt that the 3" model will make much difference.

Myck, i understand you can tone one down. But, I have only been riding for about a year, and i only weigh about 135-140 pounds so I'm not a big kid at all. Idk, I just want something im going to have fun on, that will have a lot of power, but not ride in fear the whole time.

Well, I just saw the guy repost his kx250 ad..he must have sent me pictures RIGHT when he bought it because the new pictures he posted on his ad are not the ones he sent me. The new ones have a lot of frame and case wear. I think I am going to just go with the cr125
