How much for a 125?
« on: September 06, 2010, 09:49:44 PM »
How much would a decent 05-09 yz 125, 2003-08, or 05-07 cr125 go for? I am planning on selling my bike in the winter and buy a 125 before the spring, but I need to know what I can afford before I go through with this. If you guys see any good deals, please post them here.
I'd rather be riding...

The bike market is weird right now. Folks buying bikes think they should get them for nothing, folks selling bikes want top dollar. I see plenty of 03-04 125's for $2000-2500, but every once in awhile one will pop up for $1000-1300 and the ad is only up a day, lol. The other bikes you see posted over and over again. The last '05 CR125 I saw posted around here was way high, like $3000 or something.

Your best bet would be keep an on eye local ads because prices fluctuate all over the country/world. I always see people saying on message boards that they found an '07 bikes for $1500-2000 and the last '07 250 I saw around here was $4500! Heck just yesterday a guy posted a 2008 YZ250 and he wants $5400. So my area sucks right now if you are buying.

It always depends on hours etc on bike. Plus what aftermarket things are on the bike. For instance, that 05 CR125, while may sound high, try to find any around. It took me years to track down mine, and it only had like 10 hours on it. I paid top dollar, rode it twice, and put a ton of money in it. So I have mine listed for 3300 (not really trying to sell, but have it up, just in case.  Not listed on local craigslist or anything).  Mine is an 06. But again, it may sound high, but none around Dallas area would be even close in hours, that's if you ever find one period.  CR125's 05 and newer are very hard to come by in this area. Same with 250 CR's.  04 and under, not so hard to find. So if you want an 04 or older, you can get those for around $1200-$2000 depending on shape etc.  But if you are looking for the final setup of the CR's, you will pay top dollar.

I live in FL and 2 years ago was looking for a good 125 for my nephew. Everything was high priced and junk. I ended up going through the sales guys I know at the dealer I still go through in NY and paying $1400 for an 01 RM125 from someone in the "family' of the trusted group who all know each other. I paid a little more than I wanted on an older bike but got my $ worth when it was everything the seller said, no BS in the deal. My point is I would go by word of mouth rather than search the ad's. Better to buy a bike that you know the real history. Of course keep an eye on the ad's for that one bike that will sell as soon as someone see's the ad. BTW the 125 will get a total rebuild and be my oldest son's when he outgrows his 85 and the guy I bought it from let me park my camper at his shop for a while while i was in NY last year so I really got a bargain.

Yeah the 05-07 cr125,s are hard to find,I payed 2,800 for my 06 cr125 all stock, tires, chain. I bought it from a beginner 40 plus rider that rode it through cow pies, acid in cow dung is tough on aluim. and stuff. I spent 100 hrs. taking the bike apart, I wished that I would have bought a new one, 2 years ago for 2,999, now low hour 05-07 cr125 are 3,000 to 3,500. You can pick a low hour 04 cr125 for 2,300-2,500, deck, porting, borre carb,pc pipe and silencer and it,s 37-38 hp. The YZ,s are much cheaper I see 06 yz125,s , advertised for 2,300 and they don,t sell, week transmission,s-blow 3rd and 4th gears, so you would be better off getting a cr 125.

I would like a 05-07 cr 125, but all the magazines say the yz125 is the perfect bike, and Transworld gave Honda a bad rating. Also, I am not able to afford a 3500 dollar bike, although it would be nice. Looking into the Port and polish idea, I have decided against it, you have to run race fuel, and the reliability of the engine goes way down.
I'd rather be riding...

The mags never talked good about the cr125, but in there test the cr had the fastest lap times from the b class and pro riders. I owned yz,s and rm,s there both great bikes, the cr,s are made much better from what I have seen.

Porting and polishing will not have an effect on lastiblity if you tell them that you want it like that. Meaning, the race gas, is only if you have the compression jumped up.  You can keep normal fuel on a ported bike, if it is just mildly ported for a little more umph, but don't want a full blow race bike.  The YZ's are fast in the motor department.  The CR to me handles great.  The CR is a top end motor, and a 04 would be fine in comparison.  I had one that ran just as good as my 06 before I ported it.  So stock for stock, the 04 is fine.  My best change on the CR was putting 04 CR250 Forks on it.  They are bone stock and are awesome, on the actual 250 bike, not so great.
