how weird is this
« on: May 27, 2010, 01:48:00 AM »
I was speaking to one of my riding mates today, and he told me a beauty. His mate just bought a Suzuki RM 250Z second hand from the same bike shop I deal with he rode it for less than 4 hrs and it seized.Guess what the bike shop owner told him? You should not ride a four stroke through puddles!! that's right PUDDLES!! He said it it works its way into the engine it can seize it or some crap along those lines. I have being riding for over 30yrs and have never heard so much B.S. any way it is now in for a total rebuild and he has not got a bike and he and the bike shop are each seeking legal advice as to who has to pay the $3500.00 bill, says a lot for second hand four strokes doesn't it. Fortunately I have never owned a four stroke trail bike, and I can assure you I have fallen off in very deep mud holes to the point I can not even see the bike, fallen off in creek crossings, and ridden in the pouring rain and i have never had to replace any thing more on my bikes apart from tires, brake pads, handle bars,or piston and rings,
My current ride a YZ 250 01 is just fantastic, and only now I am thinking about replacing the cylinder and piston and rings, I can do it all myself for less than $700.00, that's pretty good going for a 9 year old bike.I took it in to the bike shop about 4 months ago and they told me the bike still had plenty of life left in it. but I should replace the piston because it was the original one, and it could damage the bore. Every one who rides my bike are always surprised by how strong and powerful the engine feels and how nice the gearbox is, The first question I get is what kind of bike is that ? I say its a road registered YZ 250 01 model (Two stroke). I will never sell this bike I will keep it as a spare. Looking forward to buying a KTM 300 electric start (Would love it to be F.I.)

any way Ride hard

If the lawsuits start happening, the big 4 could be forced to make more reliable bikes. On a used bike and even new MX bikes that's not likely to happen. But they are using those MX motors in their offroad bikes now and that's a place I think they may just be vulnerable.
The AMA 4 stroke displacement rule is simply the AMA's Rich Kid's Handicap Rule!

Definitely a crock of sheep.Interestingly, when the fourstroke thing started happening(XR's and like aside)I was talking to the tech at the shop I deal with and told him I'd be buying a new one just to see what it's like-and did.He said, wait a couple years and you'll be able to get a used one for nothing. How so?says me.He says, well, would you buy a used four stroke mx?After thinking about it I said-no,I don't think so.There you have it says he-neither will most other people unless they know the bike.
I'd rather a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy.

wow, this is classic. sorry to here this for your buddy.

here is a story for you guys a long the same line. i mainly race moto but i do get out with the boyz to do some good camping and single track stuff in the mountains. anyway 90% of my friends all have 00-01 cr 250's and we ride them HARD!!! well we had a group of about 8 riders all on the same bikes and we were deep into the stonyford mountains when we needed to make this river crossing. my buddy hit it first, and he hit it hard. it was about 20 ft across and we didnt get a good gage of depth on the first crossing. i went second and crept across, i went to my seat so i punched it and pulled a wheelie out of it before i sucked any water into my air box. couple more guys come across then it happend. the bottom was all big lose river rock, the water is pure snow run off and the water is clear as glass so you could see the boulders undernieth right? well my buddy goes in a little to hot swipes his front out and goes straight down like a ton of bricks. bike, body everything completely under water with his bike on top of him. we all dump are bikes and dive in for him. at this point let me add theres snow on the ground and its COLD!!! so we get my buddy out and his bike out and start to go to work. the sun was slightly shinning but it was cold. we still had 3 guys on the other side who where less experianced than those of us on the other side and the were basically like f it. this is not good because were 30+ miles to camp on the uncrossed side and 10-15 from the crossed side. so we get a quick fire going and get my buddy warm and start tearing his bike down. this is exactly what we did and nothing more. we took the pipe off, pulled the carb off. drained the fuel(into a couple bottles) put a new plug in it, pulled the air filter and wrung it out. put it all back together with some fresh fuel and BAMMMM!!!!! we rode are other buddies bikes across, we all heated up by the fire for a few and we were on our way home. try that with a 250f, yah right.
