« on: October 13, 2012, 11:02:51 AM »
Hi guys

about to get my new CR300 built by West Coast Choppers.
So I am buying myself whole new riding outfit. Everything fine except for helmet. I really like the Shoei VFX-W Grant it only weighs 3lbs in black.Any of you guys have one and is it worth the $600.00 plus.  My mate has one cheaper version he loves it. I just like the graphics on the helmet so price is not an issue his was 500 so no biggie

again any info appreciated. My new bike looks amazing to me will post pics soon

Have only heard good things about the Shoei. Have not worn one tho.

Also in the same league are,
Fox V4
Soumy
Airoh

Remember everyone's heads are a different shape and what fits 1 guy well may not fit another well.

Worth every bloody cent you pay.

All high end helmets are.

But, you have to be prepared to regard it as a "throw away item" - that's what helmets are - one big hit, and you should be adult enough to retire it.

It's bloody hard to do it, but, that's what they are for.

Now - New Bike, New Helmet, New Gear. Recipe for disaster (at least it would be for me). Perhaps you should "stumble" in the pits, and drop said bike, and yourself, in a bit of a mud hole / cow poo if it's at a farm. A bit of dirt, is what all those things seem to crave - from the get go. Better you do it 'mildly', instead of those items doing it 'nastily'.

Yes, I am somewhat superstitious. I'm old - us old bastards are a bit weird. I still believe in "Drop Bears".

At least I'm not that far gone that I deliberately drop a new helmet on some cement, like so many do. Bugger that for a joke - I'll trash the bloody thing the normal way, whilst it's on my head................

I had been considering a moto 9 for the past year or so. My helmet is WAY too old. But the $500 was holding me back. Hit cycle gear looking for some other things and the moto 9 (which is the only one of the current crop that fits my noggin) had a $300 tag on it. Still quite a bit but much better. So I spring for it. At the register it rings up as $250. They had dropped it even more. Used that new crack hat at a hare scrambles over the weekend. Love it (and no, it did not test gravity on the parking lot -- thank the lord).

Airoh. Man I like that helmet. It just doesn't fit my head. Be sure to try them on before you drop $600 on it.

Yes, Vintage has it right - fits the most important thing.

For years, the only helmets that felt 'right' for me, were Arai. Shoei' s always seemed to really be uncomfortable on the front / upper part of my head.

Now it seems the opposite. All my prangs must have re-shaped my noggin?

My Airohs, fit perfectly. I just wish they'd do a plain white, with blue vent / chin piece edgings, like they had with the red on the first white Aviators - now they have black fittings. As I said before, I'm old, and most of the colour schemes on modern helmets don't take my fancy. Though, the Philippaerts model Stelt I first had was not bad. I came very close to creating an international incident at the Six Day this year, as I was contemplating bashing one of the Finish Team riders, for their trick blue and white - mostly Airoh - helmets. Luckily, I was only there for a day, as I had to ride over to Belgium, to see a little race.
