I think Yamahop was reserved for their weird monoshock thing, where the shock lived under the gas tank (for maximum difficulty of access.) For the 1979 model year, the magazines said that the YZ250 was completely perfect, except for a "monoflaw." I maintain that 1978/9 were the best years for motocross bikes across the board. I can't think of a single major bike-maker (back then, Husky and Maico were major, but KTM wasn't) that made a bad bike. They all looked great, they all worked well, they were all balanced at a sweet spot of suspension travel and seat height (right after this time, some of them went overboard).
And there's my rant for Sunday.
