07 YZ450F Suspension on a YZ250
« on: July 04, 2011, 07:37:52 AM »
I have an "extra" 2007 YZ450F in the garage.  Are the forks/shock the same as my 2006 YZ250?  I want to get a set revalved and wanted something to ride in the interim.  Since I don't like riding the 450F, I would like to put the forks/shock on my YZ.

Well since you are planning to take the 250 suspension off for servicing, why not just do a little extra wrenching and try the 450 stuff? Best way to find out  :D .

Seriously someone here might know for sure...

Well, it does fit, but I don't know how it will ride.  I have read that the valving is different, which was what I was assuming but was hoping someone would know a bit more specifically what is different.

I got lucky and the suspension shop (Pro-Action NC) is giving me a really quick turn around on my 250's kit so I will only be without a bike for a day or so.

I forgot to ask him.  I don't see why they can't, the physical dimensions are very close.

I would assume that the 450 would be a little stiffer due the extra crap it hauls :P
If a pair of 2" brass balls isn't working, I doubt that the 3" model will make much difference.

I'm pretty sure the 450 will have the newer style twin chamber forks. I think the 250 will have older tech internals. I love the twin chamber stuff, but I have always heard good reviews about the stock YZ250 stuff.

They both have the SSS KYB forks.  At least 06 and newer, to my knowledge.

I recall reading an article in Motocross Action that stated that the latest 4T suspension is valved quite differently to deal with the way a 4T behaves in a corner (compression braking/high centre of gravity causing the front wheel to push).

Everything I have read says that the '06 to current YZ250 forks are about the best on the market.  As long as they are sprung for your weight, maybe a re-valve for your style and riding conditions, and you can't get much better.  Much more plush than the older models on my '98 YZ250!!!
