The disappearing FIM Rules for 2010

Last year one of our astute readers discovered that the FIM was going to alter the rules so that the 250 two-stroke would compete heads up against the 250 four-stroke. This information was published on this web site along with a link to the pdf on the FIM web site (which now just points to the home page!)

Sometime over the past 6 months or so, the rule was quietly removed. No reason, no Press Release, no nothing.

What happened???

I feel your pain John. I don't know how this happened, but have a feeling this was not an accident. I believe the FIM pulled a fast one on us 2 stroke fans.

this rule was blocked by the chairman of the fim because of pressure from the jap factory's  I found a statement on the web but could not find again, or i would have posted it.

Merger, that was my guess, but since I had no proof, I kept it to myself....

The funny thing is that I thought the FIM just didn't care what anyone at the factories wanted and would hold steady, I guess they all threatened to pull out of the series altogether.... yeah right!

That's why Honda, the anti-tow-stroke company is fielding a 125cc two stroke in the 125 European Championships.

Truly if the Big 4 pulled out of racing altogether, the series on both sides of the Atlantic would be smaller than they are now, but would grow stronger quickly once the sanctioning bodies revised the rules to make it fair for all manufacturers to compete and allowed equal displacement for all machines.

My delusional fantasy is that racing would get much, much better if this were to happen!! 

But there are too many people that have a vested interest in keeping the Big 4 happy, it's called $$$$$$$$

It is a criminal situation.  I really don't know how these guys look themselves in the face every day. Their word means NOTHING.

Until the big 5 are slapped back to reality, this is what we are stuck with. I WISH the japs would pull out. It would be exactly like the time the local public transit system shut down. The media had everyone in a panic because without buses we would have gridlock of historic proportion. Ho hum The traffic patten was BETTER. That's correct, left traffic. The buses clog up our streets like a Big Mac does your arteries.

Same with our situation. Gloom, doom and agony on us. But the reality is this: it won't hurt a bit. Riders want to race (look at privateers, or guys like JLaw) mechanics want to flip wrenches and tune. Sponsor want to sell you their crap. The big 5 may stay away for a short time. But racing can (and would) go on, for the better
