What's Going On?
« on: February 16, 2013, 04:13:06 PM »
With Spring just around the corner the local shops are starting to advertize and when I saw the ads from one of western Canada's largest KTM dealers I almost fell out of my chair. Every single bike in the ad was a 2T from 50cc up to the 300s and not a single 4T!

And so swings the motocross pendulum. Mark my words, it will swing back to four strokes again one day.

The manufacturers can't this four stroke thing up for long. It might have been different if the economy hadn't crashed, but as things stand they would more than likely make more money manufacturing two strokes.

Maybe not back to 4$. I personally think it will swing to the middle, as in an equal number of 4t and 2t riders/racers and then will come the electric bike swing  :-[  And that will truly be a sad day when no more noise is heard at the track unless someone puts a playing card in the spokes  ;)

But it is good to see the tide changing. There is a fully line up of YZ's at my motorsports dealer, 85's, 125's, 250's all 2013. And they can bearely keep those on the floor, while I've seen the thumpers sit for quite a while.

I honestly don't care what other people ride, just so long as we're on fair ground you know? They can ride their expensive, loud, obnoxious, slower, heavier, harder to start foopers all they want so long as I'm allowed to blow past them on an equally sized two stroke. As most people have adequately pointed out, 250s may have more power, but they give up tons of manageability to the 250Fs. HOWEVER! Remember the reason that all the weekend warriors went to four strokes? Cos they were given a fat arse advantage. Take away that advantage and I think everyone will see  that theres no sense in buying something that is inferior in almost every way. If the big five can't sell them, they aren't gonna make em. Simple as that.

But again, I couldn't care less what stroke other people prefer, just so long as I don't have to make up a 3-4 horsepower AND manageability disadvantage.

At the local level, rider skill trumps power output when you're comparing 125's and 250f's. Suspension mods are more important than engine IMO.

At the pro level, the riders are so close in skill that a tiny amount of power or powerband usability makes a huge difference.

and I agree, i dont care what someone rides as long as the rules are fair. If rules are fair, more people will buy new 2T.

Hopefully that happens, because eventually 4T technology will make 2T less and less competitive, then you'll see less people buying 2T.

Ideally, rules are made fair, more 2T's are bought, manufactuers realize profit potential on 2T and resume Research and Development of 2T to keep up with 4T.

Seem's to me the badder they make 4$ the less reliable they are. Way less reliable than a 2s. The truth is the power's that be wanted less emission's so we got 4$ mx bike's next it will electric bike's. Here's the rub i just saw on the new's how the u.n. for more than 2 decade's has been lying about the actual number's on pollution (climate change).  I'm not saying there's no climate change but when the people trusted to tell you the truth are a bunch of liar's it make's people mad. Beside's anyone with half a brain know's that 2s or just dirt bike's in general don't make 1% of the pollution in the world.

One more thing in the 70's all the scientist said we were going into a ice age!!! Those same if you can call them scientist now scream global warming. Don't you wish these so called scientist would seperate their political agenda from their scientiffic pursuit's.  Maybe then we could get the true number's.

2S have gotten cleaner burning maybe not as clean as a 4$ but does'nt ever little bit count??? KIM
