This is quite eye-opening.....

... manufacturers overstating the power of four-stroke outboard motors!!

After a bad experience with used outboard that came with my dingy I bought a new 5HP Honda 4 stroke. Bad move. Never ran right and always snapped the shear pin on the prop just by putting it in gear. Anyway it would not plane off my little 9' boat with me and my 2 young sons in it. After years of grief I gave it away and bought a new Yamaha 8HP 2 stroke. I went up in HP so the boat would plane off. Well guess what? the new motor was crazy fast. That old honda must have been 2 or 3 HP. Too bad someone relieved me of that Yamaha off my dock one night. I never did have good lock with small boats.

Isn't a boat just a hole in the water that you throw money into?  :D

Sorry to hear that someone needed your Yamaha motor more than you did!! Maybe they used their four-stroke as an anchor and needed something to push their boat back home??? ???
