Is arenacross hard? There are a few local places by me that host them once a year just for kicks. What should I expect? I'm used to high speed big jumps outdoors tracks. I don't want to have to go out and buy an FMF shorty just for this...
Shorty is not necessary, gearing change will be

So, it turns out I don't need to replace the piston, and I have leftover rings and clips from a rebuild I didn't do a while ago. My question is, will OEM rings fit with a wiseco piston?

I've said it to you before and I'll say it again, ditch those old Hondas, and get a new YZ/KTM. :P
Oh believe me, I desperately want to, but the season is coming up so soon that I won't have time or money to buy another bike. This summer I plan on buying an 06 and up yz 125

Am I the only one who thinks cr 125's are dogs. They're sooo slow i've ridden one with the whole boyesen set up pc exhaust all the goodies and the yz and ktm just felt like it had way more punch.
Not the 05-07's

Well, I did some research, and the OEM crank is 40 dollars more than the wiseco, not including gaskets(the wiseco includes gaskets). I would love to buy an extra motor, but at the same time, I think it is too much a risk. I had no idea that there was so much involved in rebuilding the bottom end. I am very glad that I am spending the extra money this time to hire a proper mechanic. So, my second problem is that the cylinder needs to be redone. How should I go about this? Would it be cheaper to bore out the cylinder, or buy a new cylinder all together, what are my options here? Also, what are some brands that make oversized pistons?

Technical / Bottom end rebuild... again...

So, this is my second bottom end rebuild since I have bought this bike. I am really getting frustrated with it. Anyways, I have learned two things in the process, one is: Be sure you find a guy to do the rebuild who knows what he is doing, and Hot rods cranks SUCK! Well, I think they do anyways. The connecting rod went after a few months of riding. Sure, I ride my bike hard, I tend to scream my bike as opposed to lug it(it's a 125, that's what you do), but still, the connecting rod should have more life in it. So, I talked to a mechanic and he said that it would be cheaper for me to buy a new crank(funny, he suggested Hot rods) than to rebuild my old stock one from long ago. My problem is, I really do not want to buy another Hot Rods crank. I looked at a wiseco crank, and it is fairly reasonably priced. What do you guys think of Wiseco cranks? Also, I found this used ebay motor, do you think it would be smart to just go that route? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2001-HONDA-CR125-ENGINE-CART-MOTOR-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3cb3c4d54aQQitemZ260714059082QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

Oh.. and I can say that the XR is the best option. I started out on the 200, and rode the wheels off of it. Actually, I rode it so much that it just wouldn't start anymore(my fault actually but that is another story). It took several years on a slow, heavy bike in order for me to safely hop on a 125.

Thanks but everybody says the the yz 125s have no bottom end for trail riding because I'm going to be trail riding for a whole week at camping
Then don't ride the bike in the bottom end... And use the clutch...

The funniest 125 to ride? Well... I am thinking that if you can't get past 3rd gear on a 185, any 125 will be funny for someone to watch you ride. But jokes aside, I would say the KTM has the fastest motor, hands down, the Yamaha having a close second, and the Honda comes dead last. For handling, the Honda wins, with a close second being Yamaha, and KTM coming last(KTM was known for oddly set up suspension until just recently). The Honda has the friendliest beginners engine, and I have loved it for racing motocross, and the engine for sure has potential, there is actually an article about how to make a Honda 125 fast on a budget on this site. Anyways.. here is something to think about, it is very easy to make a slow, but good handling bike fast, but it is next to impossible to make a fast, but poorly handling bike handle well.

General Two Stroke Talk / What does your home track look like?
« on: January 25, 2011, 09:14:07 PM »
I was kind of wondering what your guys' tracks look like? My track is known for great spectator visibility, large jumps, a great whoop section, and an awesome hill climb. Unfortunately our track is being moved because the soil has a lot of clay in it, is really hard packed, is ridiculously far out of town. Our new track should be nice though, nice thick loamy soil, I would know because I used to trail ride in the area for the new track. Anyways the new track is hoped to attract a national, which would be awesome. Anyways back on topic, this is what my track looks like, and no, this is not me riding.

KDX 125, if they make that, I think a 200 would still rape an xr
