Technical / Re: splitting cases on 08 yz125

I split a few older ones without a splitter. My old F11 practically fell apart after a tap or two. The KDX required a splitter, as did the kx. I just made one. Pretty simple.

Technical / Re: thumb throttle on a 03 rm 250
« on: September 27, 2011, 10:25:18 AM »
I would just spend some time getting used to the twist throttle. Riding a bike is quite different than riding a quad, and it may be difficult to keep proper grip and control of the front brake when using a thumb throttle. It has been done before, but I am not quite certain of the specifics. A google search will probably turn something up for you. I'd guess all you really need is a set of ATV grips, and a thumb throttle to adapt. Might have to get creative on the cable stop, but I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to figure something out.

Non-Moto / new toy...

Picked up this POS yesterday

Thinking about cleaning it up and putting this motor in it...

Maybe? Otherwise it's a part out. I'd consider fixing it to ride or sell, but the engine cases are scrap, cylinder and crank are shot, etc. Frame seems to be in decent shape, swingarm / linkage / wheel bearings seem good. Going to start tearing it down this week and see what I've got to work with.

harescramble and enduro events around here are invariably a sea of orange with just a sprinkling of 4 strokes mixed in. For most offroad events (north american pro mx excluded), 2 strokes are definitely the norm.

Think about this logically. The RM250 never stopped being sold overseas, only in the U.S. Do you honestly think they made enough bikes in 2007/8 to be selling the same stock nearly 4 years later???

I'm wanting to re-valve my 93 yz250 forks as well. I haven't pulled them apart yet, but I hope to sometime this fall.

I guess I have to say both. I despise modern MX 4 strokes, but I do like some enduro models and the older xr's and such. 2 strokes primarily though :)

General Two Stroke Talk / Re: Erzberg Rodeo
« on: July 05, 2011, 01:29:38 PM »
Taddy Blazusiak won his 4th consecutive Erzberg rodeo in 2010 riding a ktm 250 EXC. He was also on KTM 2 strokes the previous 3 wins, although I thought he was on a 300 in 09.

I forget the 2009 results, but in 2010 there were over 500 riders at the start, and only 15 to cross the finish line. Pretty insane! I think 2009 is the year pastrana rode in it. He didn't make it very far, lol.

Yeah, absolutely don't get me wrong. I love it :).

While I like the post, i'm not surprised it got deleted. It reads as if it was intended to get a rise out of 4t fans more than anything else. Picking another fight, as it were....

Non-Moto / Re: Curious - anyone cut their handlebars?

I always cut mine. I like them around 29", a bit less if I can get it without crowding the controls.

I want the same hard hitting powerband and fun of a 2 stroke! This E tec will it be the same as the carb 2 strokes but with just better gas? http://youtu.be/8Og0JCGKmQ4

Say if they made a 500cc sport bike or dirt bike with E tec or what ever you call it will it have that same HARD hitting powerband as the Carb 2 strokes but just have more low end?

It could have whatever power delivery you want to program into it. If you want to loose some bottom end and get some wicked top end rush, just put a new map in.
