no matter what happened John is a HERO. That dude has almost single handedly given a voice to the entire 2 stroke movement. His team should be DAMN PROUD of what they are attempting to do.

I will add one more comment.  This has been a full season without 1 2 stroke qualifying and even not making the 250F qualifying #'s in the 450F class (comparing qualifying lap times).  So this shows the MXsports and ProAMA that these current rules are not even close. Hopefully atleast they will seriously look at Burns petition with a possibility. With just a little more HP, maybe Mike could have made it???  Who knows, but it actually furthers the cause because he didn't make it. Along with others who have failed.  Failure isn't always a loss...

3 things:

1) All the best riders are on 4 strokes. And the mediocre ones too. EVERYONE is on 4 strokes
2) The displacement handicap puts the 2 stroke at a solid disadvantage
3) There isn't one 250 2 stroke from the big manufacturers that is state-of-the-art . Even the KTM 250SX is using yesterday's suspension. The YZ250 hasn't had an engine upgrade in what, 8 years? Pathetic

Take away one of those negatives and you will have some 2 strokes winning. Take away two of those and you will regularly see 2 strokes on the podium. Take away all three and 2 strokes will dominate.

Non-Moto / Re: MotoGP rule change- 125gp will be no more in 2012
« on: August 16, 2010, 06:30:57 AM »
actually, yes it will be cheaper. Because one of the manufacturers will step up with a spec engine, just like they did in the former 250 class (now called Moto2). Honda agreed to supply the engine, which is based on the CBR600RR. Projected horsepower was to be 150. Well, they couldn;t get any reliability out of 150hp so they brought it down to around 125. The 600's are now SLOWER than the 250's. The racing is much tighter and the grid is huge, so all the 4 stroke fanatics are pointing out how much sense it made to bring in the 600's. Oh yeah, that's what every wants to watch - SLOWER BIKES. Hell why not just have a bunch of BMW Boxer Twins riding around while you're at it, that's close racing too <rolls eyes>

We have to improve the lines of communication during race day, these long delays wondering what happened are killing me  :D

My guess is that the engine grenaded. Not surprising when you're testing a new technology, totally expected actually. Most engineering firms test new technology in a shop somewhere. TSM is testing it out on the field!!

Anyway, i think they are doing an outstanding job in the face of incredible adver$ity

Reading some of the Vital posts really gets me revved up. Are people that blind sided to say the 4 stroke engine is better. How is it better when it is TWICE as large as a 2 stroke, are these people frigging kidding me or are most Americans that frigging dumb. And I always thought I lived in a free country with equality. Well I guess not! Ok, I better stop before I go a little over board.

Two basketball teams compete. Team A has 5 players and Team B has 9 players (+80%). When team B wins, all their fans and the news writers marvel at how easy it was to win, and how superior they are. And the league commissioner doesn't feel a need to change the rules. Any of this sound familiar? It's utterly whacked isn't it?

ah yes, the old "stripped bolt head with snapped bolt extricator thrown in for measure" routine, know it well. my last attempt before i brought it to a machine shop would be like RideRed said, file a deep slot and try using a screwdriver on it. But i think you'll wind up bringing it to the machine shop, there's all kinds of tricks they use, like heat or freezing it.

JETZ, you might not need the variable compression ratio on an mx bike, but for an off-road or street bike it would be incredible! It would instantly relegate vvt, v-tec and all the other 4 stroke variable valve actuation systems obsolete. Because it could change its compression ratio on demand you'd have an engine that could deliver a suite of power curves. Plus you could use almost any fuel in it.

General Two Stroke Talk / Re: E-TEC Direct injection explained.
« on: August 08, 2010, 07:27:17 PM »
One thing i've noticed about the evinrude e-tec engines - their oversquare bore x stroke dimensions!! Check out the following:
Evinrude 250hp - 98mm X 73mm per 546cc piston
Evinrude 200hp - 91mm X 66mm per 432cc piston

Compared to the big 4 strokes:
CRF450R - 96mm X 62mm
KX450F and RMZ450 - 96xx X 62.1mm
Yamaha YZ450F - 97mm X 60.8

Or the big 2 strokes:
Kawasaki KX500 - 86mm X 86mm
Honda CR500 -  89mm X 79mm

So interesting because 2 strokes have very seldomly been designed specifically for high revs, unlike modern 4 strokes, who've found a new lease on life through higher revs. How beautiful would it be for the direct injected 2 strokes to beat 4 strokes at their own rev game!

ATK 700 Intimidator

Why not get the Maico 700?  The engine is the same and if you saw the latest Maico International news the 2011 will have 20 more HP.

you're absolutely right, for some reason i was thinking the Maico stopped at the 620. Maico 700 it is!!

Unlimited money? It would have to be an ATK 700 Intimidator, i've never been on a dirtbike that would deliver the kind of thrust that i assume that thing would deliver. Since there's no budget i'd probably send it to Eric Gorr to have him work his magic on it, can never have too much horsepower  :P :P :P

General Two Stroke Talk / Re: Can i switch from 40:1 to 32:1???
« on: August 06, 2010, 06:51:16 AM »
i was running 32:1 or more back in the 70's. Oil lubrication technology has made huge strides since then. It's no longer the QUANTITY of oil, but the QUALITY of oil. That's why guys using full synthetic can feel confident at 50:1.
One thing is for sure though - if you change the ratio you should rejet, because each droplet of fuel no longer contains the same amount gas i.e 32:1 = 96.87% gas per droplet, and 50:1 =  98% gas per droplet

Major props to you Burn1986, thanks! Incidentally i think the best thing we could do to help is get your petition put up on as many websites as possible, not least of which is Rick "Super Hunky" Siemen's. 1,300 is a lot but 10,000 would be much better

General Two Stroke Talk / Re: Meeting with AMA Al Ludington
« on: August 05, 2010, 07:19:51 AM »
I'm sorry if I sound abit cynical, but I'm not quite sure what it is that your going to acheive by this rule change.
Most countries around the world are currently running your proposed class structure and it doesn't make the slightest difference to the class. A 25cc increase isn't really going to set the world on fire.
Is this rule change at pro level only ? If so another pointless exercise, how many pro's race a 125 in the lites class currently, count them on one hand! Do you think the increase in 25cc will see pro's dumping their 250 4t's in droves and jumping ship to ride a 150 2t, the only people it will benefit is the riders currently on 125 2t's.
For a country that wants to be the leaders of the known motocross universe, you seem to only be playing catch up.

Agree 100%, anything less than equal displacement/total annihilation is a joke. BUT since it's clear the AMA is totally biased in the 4 strokes favor, with this new rule you might see a few 2 strokes whereas now there are none. So i'll take what i can get until the current administration dies off and fairer minds prevail

uh-oh. my bullshit radar is going off with some of Al's wording:

Is it safe and doesn't involve danger to the racer and others. Huh? I mean is he kidding?

Is it good for the sport. Translation - does it benefit our owners, namely the manufacturers.

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict right here and now that he's full of shit and that it's going to get torpedoed.
