General Two Stroke Talk / Gimmicks
« on: September 28, 2010, 02:05:42 AM »
There seems to be a massive fascination currently with "gimmicks", and it seems to sell bikes. Fuel injection, different displacements, and the one that gets me, Yamaha's reverse cylinder, on the current generation four strokes. In 08 and 09, you didnt see many YZ 450's at the track, cos people had jumped on the fuel injected Suzi, then in 09, the KX and CRF. Now with the "AMAZING" reverse cylinder, and even though the new bike is 3kg heavier, you see new Yamaha's everywhere. It really makes me wonder, and most of the time, shake my head.

Just to give some inspiration to everyone here, I smoked a couple of fast guys riding brand new KTM 350s on the weekend. I went and spoke to both of them after one of the sessions, and it was quite a good chat. Both of these guys have spent HUGE amounts of money on their new bikes. Both still have 2010 450's sitting at home for sale, and they cant sell!!!! The amount of money these guys spend makes my head spin. My $5000 08 YZ 250 is the PERFECT bike, cheap to buy, cheap to maintain, so much FUN to ride, and a great RACE weapon !!!! By the way, both those guys said they loved how good my 250 sounded wide open when I passed them !!

Also on the weekend something else brought a smile to my face. I was watching the lites practice, and saw guys coming out of the corner just in front of where i was parked, which was a fairly deep loamy rutted corner. The guys on 250F's were using heaps of clutch and touching the limiter a couple of times clicking gears out of the corner and up the straight. Now, I bet you are wondering why all this brought a smile to my face? Not because I liked how it sounded, I didnt, but these days I am use to it. No, it was because I thought to myself, I never have to worry about maintaining a four stroke that has so many moving parts, uses very expensive oil to keep everything lubricated and working as it should, and requires a bank loan should something fail. What a relief that thought is !!!

Now, I just gotta go out and win this weekend !!!

General Two Stroke Talk / Australian Super X
« on: August 29, 2010, 09:40:20 PM »
Well, we are getting closer now to the start of Australia's Super X series, and a host of top US import riders will be out here racing, but whats more impressive is that the 250 2 strokes are legal in the lites class for Super X. This is awesome news, and several top riders will be on factory spec machinery and ready to make waves on the two stroke. This could be a major turning point for the two strokes here in Australia. Hopefully this will entice more top privateers to switch to the two stroke and allow them to also reap the rewards. This would also then filter down through the amateur levels and go a long way towards re-instating the 250 two stroke as a viable motocross race weapon.

CANT WAIT !!!!!!!

General Two Stroke Talk / Southwick
« on: August 25, 2010, 03:06:09 PM »
A bit quiet round here lately. So, who is pumped up and excited about Southwick? I know that I am. I can feel good things will happen this weekend !! After the lowest of lows at Unadilla, the team deserves great results at Southwick. Lets hope all the pieces fall into place for this weekend.

GOOD LUCK PROJECT TWO 50 !!!!!!!!

General Two Stroke Talk / 250 Four Stroke
« on: August 22, 2010, 04:52:53 AM »
Now I know the heading is misleading, but hear me out. I had a great ride today at the local motocross track, and have my YZ250 running sweet. I have been back on two strokes for a couple of years now and been loving every second of it. Now I had a chance to ride a good mates 2010 YZ250F as I hadnt ridden a 250F for a couple of years and wanted to see what the new ones are all about. I did one lap and wanted my bike back. I dont remember the 250F's being so slow and underpowered. Weight wise felt similar, but all this talk about increased levels of handling due to the engine braking and putting power to the ground better is a load of garbage. My two banger puts the power down just as well as the 250f, plus makes bucket loads more of it.  I dont know why more guys aren't riding and racing 250 2 strokes. Especially being legal against the 250Fs. For anyone out there that currently rides a 250F and is considering a two stroke, you gotta make the change. Of course everyone here already knows this. Just wanted to re-affirm my four stroke position !!!!

General Two Stroke Talk / Australian Motocross Tragedy
« on: May 01, 2010, 08:15:05 PM »
Hey all,

Just wanted to let you know of the tragedy that occurred at the third round of the Australian Motocross Nationals. One of Australias greatest ever riders Andrew McFarlane was killed in practice at the Broadford track in Melbourne, Australia. Andrew competed both in the USA and on the World GP circuits with great success and was an ambassador for the sport. He helped put Australia on the map and showed the world that riders from down under had the speed and ability to compete successfully at an AMA and world GP level.  He will be greatly missed.

R.I.P Andrew McFarlane

General Two Stroke Talk / Quote of the Month
« on: March 09, 2010, 02:35:32 PM »
I came across this quote on a forum and just had to get it posted here. It for me just sums up perfectly the current four stroke situation. Now this definitely isn't my own work and props has to go out to Shagger from Minnesota for this one, not sure if he is a user of this forum, but he is a genius in my eyes!!!!

Check this out :

Go into a field full of sheep every day and let out loud farts while setting fire to one of the sheep.

Sheep aren't very smart. But in about a decade or so they'll start to learn that things that make loud farting noises will light you on fire.

Good hey !!!!!!!!!!!

If you have your own quotes please feel free to post within this topic.

General Two Stroke Talk / Dan Reardon
« on: February 06, 2010, 09:47:29 PM »
Hey all,

Just watching the live AMA timing for the supercross, and it has Dan Reardon down as racing a YZ250 two banger in the main. Can anyone there in the states confirm that this is true. I damn hope that it is. Massive news if this is true. And a new hero to support at the very top level. Go Reardo !!!!!!!!!
