Technical / 04 yz250 5th gear issue

I would hunt for a complete gear box of a YZf400, YZF426 or YZ250 on ebay, should cost you about $100 and you can do the work yourself. Tools could cost you about $ 70 or so but once you got them you can do almost all work yourself.

I'd say that depends on you riding style.

It really depends on you riding style. And how much you use the bike. Frequent riders which ride hard use 32:1 or even 20:1 as the ring seal will be better. Weekend rider with small trails use do 50:1 or even 100:1

I like the SST quite a lot, now I'm running a Doma system which is almost identical to the SST. Overrev wise they are quite similar. I run the Doma with a 45/NP3/182 JD red needle set up and would jet for the SST at least 185.

less premix will absolutely positively NOT make more power, who ever told you that is full of shit  ;)
The opposite has been proven, more oil on the bore and rings = a better ring seal = more hp
I run 20:1 but it gets expensive, stick to 32:1 if your motor is stock-ish

+1 I run it 25:1 as I have to slow down once in a while and 20:1 at low rpm is not really the best.

Thanks for tip, I was gonna put a 50 on the rear and leave the front but I'll drop one on the front too. Aftermarket pipe was already a definite though I was going to go with a pro circuit. Apparently people have had issues with the FMF SST melting pistons or something.
Thanks

I retarded timing a bit and upped the main to 185, no melt down, no problems with my SST.

Do you have play at the crank? Just in case try to wedge a screwdriver below the crank's pinion and try to move it up just a little, if it moves the bearing needs to be replaced. No seal can seal a loose bearing.  :'(

Technical / Clutch slipping.. need help
« on: September 02, 2012, 06:45:22 PM »
Not only that, a bit of glace, or burned and the plates can slip.

I don't think that the unburned premix can get the clutch to slip. IMO of course :)

Have you measured the clutch basket, pressure plate, fiber/metal plates and springs for wear?

I wonder when that question will be answered :) To me it sounds like a spacer issue if the plates are new.

not that difficult to put a 0.1 mm gauge between piston and bore.

Technical / oil level on forks off a 2004 rm 250
« on: August 21, 2012, 04:45:48 PM »
That's great info, I wasn't even aware of that. I use ATF becaue it is around W7.5, easy to come by and I change the oil every 40 hours.
Also work good in trannies and the smell will give a crank seal leak away. I have a reasonable hig outside temperature so the viscosity drops down fast.

On my RM250 I use 380ml per fork leg. ATF, as I frecuently change forkoil.  :D
