General Two Stroke Talk / 2013 TSM Outdoors Thread

she would only be sixtysixth fastest at the ama 250 national. but she may produce some killer child bearing hips as a result of riding her two-stroke.

When does the WMX race during the day, before, during, after the mens?? I was comparing her lap times (which I have to quote someones post here at 2:15 cus direct/fuel/nbc coverage SUCKS) but she would have been running somewhere between 20-30 in the race. I am curious is she qualified on the smooth freeway track like Tomac did at 1:57.

http://www.americanmotocrossresults.com/live/archives/mx/2013/index.html?EventID=M1305

The women qualify first and their motos are between the men's during the day program.  So yes she qualified on a glass smooth track at Hangtown and during their races she rode on the same rough track.  In order to qualify for the 250 gate without running a consi your lap had to be under a 2:08.7.  Courtney qualified in WMX with a 2:13.5, and like I said she did that before there were any laps turned in anger by the pros.  In her second qualifying session after the track was beat up from the pros she put in a 2:19.

During the motos the top 250 guys were running 2:05s, Duncan was running 2:21-2:24 with a fastest single lap of 2:19.  Those lap times during the moto would have put her next to the last guy still making laps during the race.

This is certainly not to put her down, just putting real numbers out there.

General Two Stroke Talk / Semi-Related - MX Video Games
« on: April 25, 2013, 01:40:27 PM »
Oh the base game is crap, there's no denying that.  But it's built to be expandable like MCM2 was.  All the real content is user made and downloadable.  Very detailed bike models, graphics, gear, objects, and tracks are already made for it.  But you need a good computer and the patience to deal with adding it all together, so it's not for everyone.  I don't think anyone is making the claim it's just like being on the bike, but it's by far the best thing running in terms of MX games right now.  The SX and national replica series are run very well.

With the amount investment it takes to create a game for the new generation consoles I just don't see anyone spending the coin to make a good MX game.  Blackbean made that MUD game but it's pretty bad.  That would be my definition of arcady.

I've heard people dislike MX Sim for a lot of reasons.. but that's the first time I've ever heard it called arcady.  I guess you never took it out of arcade mode to see how painful it is when you have to balance the bike yourself.  Takes a lot of crashing to get things under control.

There is a modern day version of MCM2 complete with 2-strokes.  MX Simulator is where it's at.  Game is tough as hell but has a huge online following with replica supercross and outdoor national series.  I'm talking replicas of the real tracks.

The base game isn't much to write home about, but like MCM2 the user-made add-ons are limitless.

The closest guy to it recently was Ty Newcome at High Point, 2011.  He got a 22nd in a muddy second moto on a YZ 250.  Jeff Gibson also rode on a borrowed 250XC with electric start still in place that round, he ended up 25th that same moto.  Gibson tried to ride out a few more events on the same bike but failed to qualify.

You must not be looking at the RacerX Vault then.

General Two Stroke Talk / 150f in 85 class argument over at ktmtalk
« on: September 11, 2012, 08:09:09 PM »
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO.
The 150F's were thrown out of our nationals a couple of years ago but there are still clubs and meetings that still allow them.
A guy I work with , his son is 1 of the top 11 year olds over here and we were talking about this just the other day.
While there is not much between the bikes when standard there is when money is spent.
A kid his son raced against a couple of weeks ago had $15k worth of Pro Circuit bits in the bike. :o
Thats just bullshit for a kids bikes.
For the record the 85's could not keep up with that particular 150 down the straight.
When that same kid has to race a 85 in the nationals he is average.
Check book racing for kids is just dumb.

If Honda want kids to ride their 150's they should start their own series or just piss off.

Well said and its got my backing. How would it be fair to allow a 150F to compete with an 85? Easier to ride and more power, its the 125/250F debate all over again. Except this time, you're running a bike thats for a 10-16 year old give or take. 15k of parts is a ridiculous bill for a kids bike no matter who you are. But its not just money thats the problem its also how unfair it is to the other kids, how much heavier the bike is to kids who can barely lift their 85, the heat of the engine when it lands on them, all these factors that make it not only unfair to put a kid on a 150, not just even worse for the sport, but downright dangerous.

Anyone with common sense can see what you are saying and agree, but million$ in marketing have a way of clouding the truth.

Someone should post the actual (not published) weights of the two bikes in question to go along with your last sentence. I am sure it would be enlightening.

The Honda site lists 234 POUNDS!? To me, this is reckless disregard for a child's safety. Nobody in their right mind would even consider putting a child on a 125 and they are LIGHTER than a 150f.
http://www.honda.com/newsandviews/article.aspx?id=6687-en

The KX85 lists at 152 pounds.
http://www.kawasaki.com/Products/Product-Specifications.aspx?scid=8&id=677

At 80 pounds difference, that is considerably more mass driving a kid into the ground in a crash. Would any parent put an 80 pound Gyro on their kid's bike and send them out on the track?

They would be better off putting them on a detuned 250F as a lighter, safer, cheaper to maintain option at 227 pounds.
http://www.honda.com/newsandviews/article.aspx?id=6699-en

The website obviously lists the weight for a 450 on accident.  The actual wet weight of the newest CRF150s is 170lbs.

General Two Stroke Talk / Is This the future of dirt bikes?
« on: July 12, 2012, 04:27:45 PM »
Batteries are not the way of the future. Sorry.  Battery cars are currently failing hugely even with government aid. Tesla(Electric Lotus Elise, Government funded) just went under and is no more. The problem with electricity unless tapped from the Air as Tesla intended, there isn't enough to revolutionize the motorized world. Where does electricity come from? Coal, Natural Gas, Damaging Dams, Nuclear Power Plants(Despite human error it could be the greenest form of energy possible , even without the use of Helium 3 AKA Cold Fusion), etc., all of which produce more electricity than turbines or Solar panels could ever hope of equaling. Everyone wants clean energy, problem is that it doesn't exist. Going green is BS.

Also, Battery power = HEAVY... Especially if you want more than 30 minutes of ride time...

I think Tesla would be surprised to hear they're out of business considering they just came out with a new line of cars.

General Two Stroke Talk / Yet another project

Dont be to hard on the guy . Most people need the lazy fooper power in order to go fast . Why learn how to ride better when you dont need to right ? :<img src=" title="Roll Eyes" class="smiley"> :<img src=" title="Roll Eyes" class="smiley">

i mean cuz its not like he spent all that money then he coudln't splurge for a flywheel to calm it down to make it ride-able

There's nothing wrong with the hit or how calm the power is, it rides just fine.  What can I say, I tried to re-live my youth with the bike and it just doesn't really work out in reality.  I spent the last week riding my buddies brand new '12 KTM 250SX because he wants to sell it and I didn't really enjoy that either.  Compared to a 450 at speed the bike is nervous and not very planted.  The power, shifting, clutching, none of that is a big deal.  It pulls fine and turns great, but so does my 450.  So I think I'm pretty honest when I say I'm significantly faster on a 450, so much so that struggling with the feel of the 250 just isn't any fun.  You can say I'm spoiled or whatever, that's fine.  But I'm a competitive guy at heart. So while I'm still a 2-stroke fan I'm also looking to be competitive because I race against some very fast dudes.  I'm not just out there "for the fun of it", because that's what guys who can't win or don't race say.

Anyway, the bike is pretty much sold to a kid who will put it to far better use than I.  I'm sure it will show up at Loretta's next year in the 250A near the front of the pack.  Also I'm not taking any kind of a loss on it, the parts were all bought at or near cost except for the carb.

General Two Stroke Talk / Hangtown 2012!
« on: May 20, 2012, 12:09:11 PM »
???  Blose was on this YZ250.  This picture is from the pits Saturday morning.  If the scoring sheet had that wrong it wouldn't be the first time.

Those entry numbers are pretty in-line with what has signed up the past several years.  Throughout the nationals there's usually between 60 to 80 riders in each class at each round trying to qualify.

The 450 class was a little boring out front but I thought that first moto of the 250s was some of the best racing I've ever witnessed.  I've never seen anyone do what Baggett pulled off.  Track was typical for Hangtown, pretty rutted and square edge.  I'm not at all crazy about their broadcast format.  Guess I should consider myself lucky to even have NBCSN even though it's standard def.

The thread is a little misleading even though the title says "old essay", this little circus happened in what, 2009 or 2010??  Must have been 2010 because Sleeter than the 350 in 2011.

Anyway, to clear something up Sleeter is not a "factory" rider in any capacity, nor has he ever been.  He was then and is now a KTM employee on the payroll as a development and test rider.  Now he just races amateur nationals.  Yes he was never going to qualify on the 2-stroke, and although this sounds more like conspiracy theory than anything there may be some truth to the twist that some capable privateer could take Sleeter's 450 and qualify on it while he missed the cut.  I don't remember if they actually did put anyone on it or not.

Dungey's bike is a pretty radical design, not based on anything they had made previously except for the cam-followers which are shared with the 350.  Here's a link for an in-depth look at his bike pre-SX season.

General Two Stroke Talk / Chris Blose in for Hangtown on a YZ 250
« on: May 18, 2012, 01:11:45 PM »
By the way, Ricky Renner is not doing all the nationals.  From his Twitter he's considering doing 2.  Doesn't feel he has a chance in timed qualifying because of how deep the tracks get ripped.

Chris made every SX main event this season. I was pretty impressed with that considering some of the guys who didnt. I dont think he's raced outdoors in a few years though. He should definitely be somewere in the top 20-25

Are you sure you're thinking about 2012?  I remember Blose missing a good portion of the season with a torn up shoulder.
