General Two Stroke Talk / Re: 2012 KTM's Linkage!!!
« on: May 23, 2011, 02:38:58 AM »

You have to wonder what discussions are going on in the Japanese bike manufacturer boardrooms given the success of the KTM 2Ts.

I would think it would be a no brainer to put a larger tank, flywheel wt, wide ratio tranny, 18 inch rear wheel, softer springs on one of their existing 2t bikes (yz,rm,kx) with no other changes and try and market it to the off road crowd. easy money.

Regardless of what Nate says about "just wanting a different fender to look at" he switched for just one reason.
Someone PAID him to do so.

My other point is, without the japs on board the AMA will never budge.
I for one would love to see BUBBA riding a modern 300-350cc 2 stroke rather than a YZF tractor.
I am sure I'm not alone on this.

I agree with you, I guess i should have been more clear. I don't consider a 6 year old, "new" 2011 yz a new bike.
I am saying we need to buy the euro bikes. They are the most new bikes.

The only way that 2 strokes are going to make any kind of major comeback is if you, me and every dirtbike person you know
go down and buy a NEW 2 stroke bike. Now, not when the new KTM with FI comes out, or when and if the Maico finally shows up.
The root cause for the decline of the 2 stroke is that we stopped buying them.
Money rules the world and when you vote with your dollars, only then will the manufactures put development dollars into producing new, modern 2 stroke bikes. Then they will pressure the AMA to allow you to race them.
PS.  buying a used bike off craigs or ebay does not count.
Show there is an overwhelming demand and they will line up to supply that demand.
The Jap companys will not let KTM have the whole pie if they think the pie is big enough.

Or how bout a real 250 cc test that includes all the 250 2t along with the 250f, including lap times, straight up, nose to nose.
let the best bike win.

Last night at the local indoor race

4 strokes stall, often, and are hard to restart leaving the rider spent by the time he got it going again, everytime he was in last place.
saw this happen at least 15 times.

4 strokes are loud. You could not hear the 2 strokes over the sound of the 4 strokes. My wife hated the sound.

2 strokes we competitive in every class includiing the 450 A main. 2nd place when to a ktm 250sx

A fast kid on an 2011 150sx owned the 250 A class

Skinny kids could not pick up a spilled kx450f without help from track crew. This was notable because he tangled up with a kid on yz 250
the 2 stroke kid was just as bone skinny but was able to get the yz back on 2 wheels and lit it with one kick and finished 3rd, the 450f pilot when he finaly with help got it back on 2 wheels could not start it and the track crew dude took over and kicked about 20 times then gave up and pushed the bike off the track.

General Two Stroke Talk / easy to adjust air screw for air striker carb?
« on: January 22, 2011, 11:16:32 AM »
Does any one make a longer air screw with a knurled knob on it similar to what you see on 4 stroke carbs for the adjustable fuel screw.
this would make tuning so much easier if you didn't have to try and find the slot with a small screwdriver while wacking the throttle
especialy with 46 yo eyes.
