Non-Moto / Engine oil: Mineral, semi-synthetic and synthetic
« on: January 30, 2014, 05:24:24 AM »
Well its about $83 for a 4 litre jug of Torco goo. Not any cheaper for Castrol either. Motul is about the same aswell. Just looked at some amsoil and it came in at $93 for 3.7 litres. Thats ****ed. Royally. I could mix and jet for 20:1 and still save money with mineral. So in all seriousness: What kind of losses am I looking at? Wear? Performance? Ego?

Non-Moto / Engine oil: Mineral, semi-synthetic and synthetic
« on: January 29, 2014, 10:39:54 PM »
Another dread thread. But heres the thing: Synthetic oil here in Aus, and even semi synthetic for that matter, is quite literally TWICE the price of mineral. I've been running mineral oil in my KTM for a good 25 hours of hard riding now, and its shown absolutely zero signs of aggrivation. And this is with the uber paranoid me, that pulled the jug off every 5 hours for the first 20 hours to inspect things. Don't trust the dealer, plus its a two stroke so you know, why the hell not? :P

But my question is: What are the facts? What are the REAL differences here? Last oil thread that appeared I remember someone mentioned they ran peanut oil through their transmission in the ultra high rpm go-karts. If carbon build up and smoke are the worst worries, they can cram their double-dollar synthetic stuff.

Technical / 02 Honda CR125R BUDFET PERFORMANCE MODS

Spam. Can never understand why they post copies of other peoples post's? Surely that can't make them any money?

They do it so if was quoted then then be certain the forum is active. I delete them when I find them or people report them. I always ask nobody respond to spammers, but nobody listens to me LOL.

I think what you are meaning is so they know the forum is active. I avoid posting in the spam threads though. Easy to pick out.

Just picked up a 02 CR125R and looking for some budget Performance upgrades.
Currently the Bike has 52 sprocket, fmf shorty with factory head pipe, twin filter,

 Does anyone have any suggestions?
You literally said the same thing as the other guy...

Spam. Can never understand why they post copies of other peoples post's? Surely that can't make them any money?

Its entirely possible TSM's filter is blocking thousands, if not millions of hte exact same thing and for whatever reason, that one snuck through. The idea is to load up a server so much it crashes.

As for the mods first thing you want to do is drill/stab some holes in the side panels to let the airbox breathe. its free, and yeilds noticeable power improvements. Yes, the original was that bad. Next i'd be looking at compression and porting mods. simplest and cheapest way to get extra compression is to mill the head.

Technical / Piston/Cylinder diagnosis
« on: November 19, 2013, 01:46:06 AM »
Yeah shes good to go. Broken in and fine. I've been checking in on the cylinder, head and piston condition in between the three heat cycles and its quite happily seated in. Seasons kinda over for me now though which is disappointing. It'll get run once a week to keep it ready for action but other than that she'll be a dust absorber. Something my shed needs desperately :P

Take your exhaust off first.

Lulz

Spitting fuel on your bike sounds like rich jetting. If the o-ring is shot, by all means, replace it. but you should address the problem at the source as well.

General Two Stroke Talk / 2012 KTM 250SX Issues
« on: November 10, 2013, 01:06:29 AM »
Of the four KTM's I have owned I've never once had a problem getting the air filter seated properly. Although I have seen a freshly rebuilt sx150 engine get destroyed within 3 hours of riding because he didn't put the filter on properly, so I guess you could put them on wrong but if you take care when refitting the filter you should be fine.

Actually been wondering how hard it would be to put a KTM rear end on my CR5. It seems like a pain in the ass now having to remove the seat all the time just to change the air filter.

Nothing like as much of a pain in the arse as jerry rigging the KTM rear end to the CR500 would be, put it that way :P You'll get used to the seat thing, and its nothing compared to changing the air filter on a 10-13 YZ450F. That was absolutely ridiculous.

OREGONMOTORCYCLERENTAL.COM
Using the loudmouth air intake system eliminates the intake problems on the questionable KTM filter seating correctly.I run the Loudmouth system on all my rental machines here in the northwest. After ruining several engines in dusty conditions,I found even if the filter is seated correctly, the rim grease dries out quickly, cracking, and allows dust particles to enter the intake.BELIEVE ME,the new filter clamp does the job.I also run PC filterskins to lengthen the life of the $30 dollar filter.I find no loss of power, and no noticeable increase either.you can find more info at oregonmotorcyclerental.com

Nonsense. Oil your filters, run your fingers around the edge to make sure it is seated correctly. If you do it right, and its really not a complex thing, there shouldn't be any issues to be found unless theres actual damage somewhere.

Technical / KTM 250 HELP
« on: November 07, 2013, 11:02:24 AM »
I'd suggest checking for air leaks. Bout a year ago some guy had the same issue turned out to be an air leak caused by the shock of landing a big jump. Cracked cases or something if I remember.

More likely to be the above things though, just something to keep in mind :)
