General Two Stroke Talk / KTM SX250 2T 2013
« on: April 10, 2012, 03:09:02 PM »
Im far more disapointed that I zoomed in to the pictures and suspect it still has a carburetor haha...

my money is still on the HUSKY for 2013 EFI... I wouldnt put real money on it, but Im reduced to clutching straws each year when they dont produce what the rumour mill predicts haha

PS: the same rumour mill that produces the KTM EFI stories is the same that produces the "250SX would kick the 450F" rumour !

Im just stirring the pot. no need to a full on argument fellas :P

If ktm thought they could destroy the competition with their 250SX they would have filed the paperwork and would be kicking arse right now.

why?

because if they was to happen people would stop buying KXF/YZF/CRF bullshit and KTM two stroke sales would skyrocket to never before seen levels.

they havnt filled out the paperwork because KTM is reeping from the 2T enthusiast argument of "mannnn, if it were allowed to  race it would kick some serious ass"

if it weren't to kick arse as we all seem so confident about,  KTM would be far worse off because their model range would then be relegated to "woods bike/enduro only" status.

Im not so concerned with the 300v450 debate.

Id rather hear how the 125/300 TMs go up against the YZ and KTM 250's in every aspect.

-price
-finish/componants/features
-handling/weight
-performance (hill climbing, draging, corner exits, top end, bottom end etc etc)

-and if only you could stop by at a dyno center on the way home that would top it all off!!!
if thats not possible then give us a bum dyno reading of each bike haha compared to the yz/ktm which have known power ratings.

454
you can bore the pwks out to 41.5 :)

even better than 39 haha

455
Could have sworn there was a quote from MXA stating those figures with a PC (Pro Circuit) pipe..

and after reading an article by the same magazine where they describe a modification like this as "supercharging", you still believe their claims about the pro-circuit pipe?

456
That as well, but we have to remember that even with the 250sx running a 36mm carb its still pulling 50hp stock. With pipe 54-57hp? Jesus. Why touch it?

You wont get an extra 4-7Hp from just a pipe.
Besides, dont you think the stock pipe might be pretty good anyway.

+1

with a custom made big belly pipe and a 39mm carb you'd be lucky to get that.
remember, that 57rwhp is approaching super kart territory, theres alot more work than a pipe and a carb on those monsters.

457
I re-read the article on it.

It sounds more like a paid advertisement than a real test/review.

supercharger :P

It sounds to me more like a lazy mans power jet.

458
might have to ask around regarding that mod.

I wouldnt mind installing it on my PWK 39/41.5 oval bore.

but Id been keen to see whether the supercharger effect is just the larger carb, and whether the same fueling can be acheived through the powerjet.

but I like the idea of being able to adjust the mixture on the fly... extend that adjust up to the handlebars, would be really good then!

General Two Stroke Talk / CRM250 SMR with CR cylinder

How much HP did it make after the tune up?

No dyno yet.

Gota get the servo motor working first and heat cycle the piston, then it's dyno time

Hoping for very high 40s with the stock pipe and perhaps crack into the 50s once a custom pipe is made. But that's just a guess. What's going to be more interesting is the midrange which I hope will be massive with the long rod.

Hey fellas,

While procrastinating about the KTMito, I Got my supermoto race bike fired up on the weekend for the first time.

Heres what I started with

1999 basket case CRM250AR with probably 20hp at the wheel in its state of tune.

rebuilt bottom end
137.5mm rod from a yz490
custom machined crank to accept the wider rod
KTM250SX piston with custom machined oiling holes
2005 CR250 cylinder, transfer ports reshaped, stud holes offsef, spigot machined down, 5mm cylinder spacer. bored to 68.5mm (265cc) and Nikasilled.
CR250 cylinder head, machined to Superkart specs, toroidal shape
stock 05 CR250 expansion chamber for the beast overall spread of power for now untill a custom pipe is made
Vforce 3 reed cage
custom made alloy intake boot
RM250 PWK39mm with TPS
modified flywheel
she drinks 100octane + a few additives with 20:1 AGIP castor/synth

Electronics are taken care of by an ignitech programable ignition unit

chassis:
powdercoated frame
marzochi 45mm shiver forks
rebuilt and resprung CRM showa shock
320mm wave disc
husky SMR 320 disc adapater bracket with 65mm caliper bolt spacing (ala ducati/aprilia)
Aprilia RSV caliper
braided lines
mito wheels
machined down rear disc
CRF rear master cylinder
new plastics and custom designed graphics
BT003 tires

Final issues to be resolved before first trackday:

-a battery to turn the ignition system on as kicking the engine over doesnt quiet produce the minimum 9V to create spark. My 12V 1.3Ah battery turned up today, its about the size of a cigarette packet so will fit nicely, Im going to just wire it up to a handlebar button so that I can only use it for starting the bike as my charging system/capacitor produces more than enough juice to power the bike

-servo motor gremlins, Iv contacted ignitech as Im convinced there is a fault with my programable ignition box because the servo is about as productive as a retarded 3 year old.

final product

General Two Stroke Talk / Scalvini Exhausts

A dynometer comparison is the only way to quantify gains/losses from a pipe swap.

I would say that lap times are subjective and are a qualitative comparison

$250?
If you find me a scalvini for $250 I will buy it just to compare it on the dyno ;)

1.
For all the claims of 'better bottom, mid and top end" I see very few dyno graphs...

bum dynos mean sweet F-all when your excited about your new 500 dollar bling pipe... heck they still mean next to nothing in any other scenario.

2.
From the photos Iv seen, these pipes look to be very similar in spec to the stock pipes which is a tell tale that they will perform similarly (perhaps a little better, granted).

3.
For $750 (pipe and silencer) you can one of the many skilled two stroke pipe builders to make you a fully custom designed and fabricated cone pipe to suit your needs.
Heck Im getting one made right now for far less than that to produce top end biased power through a large volume/cc ratio.

not convinced...

show the dyno sheets!

Vintage Two Strokes / Maico 620 SM

still having dramas Rob?

knowing that maico generally re-use parts on as many models as they can to save money, perhaps the pipe is off a smaller cc model and is therefore too short... so you can never properly get "on the pipe"
take some measurements of the different segments of the pipe and post them up
