Are you sure the crank is not just jammed with a piece of the piston?

x2, check this out. If there is shrapnel in the bottom end, the crank has very little clearance between the cases and itself, so even a very small piece can be jamming it up. Also could be pieces in the main bearings.

Oh yeah, the tank mounts right up perfectly. I actually just went all mad scientist on it in the garage, I created a few custom mounts that will make these shrouds look decent for the time being. I have to cut them a bit, but it'll pick them up and stop making them look ghetto rigged and droopy.

That's the plan. Only problem is it isn't a '93 RM tank. So i have to find out what year/make the tank is and get shrouds accordingly. But I honestly want to get it running and ridable before I worry to much about cosmetics

That was exactly it. Thanks a bunch man! Got it all buttoned up and put it. Also got the rear fender mounted and tail pipe mounted. Good to know that the part of the frame I fabricated had the correct measurements  Anyways, here's how it sits now.

I've run into a little snag. I can't get the right side cover to seat evenly which is causing a massive leak of trans fluid. I've ruled out everything, the centering dowels, the governor, and even the main crank. All are seated and installed properly. I looked at the shift shaft and it seemed to be sticking out more than it should which I suspect is causing my clearance issues. Is it supposed to be lined up so that the small stud is in the machined hole in the gear selector? If so, how can I align it properly?

Oh yeah, the crank seemed a tiny bit hesitant to move until I put the trans oil in. I guess the oil got the right side crank seal all lubed up? This is my first bottom end rebuild so I don't have any experience here

Finally got some time to wrok on the thing. Got the cases all put back together, new bearings, seals, crank, and some other odds and ends in her. Got the clutch straightened out as well. I'll hopefully be dropping the bottom end in the frame tomorrow, and I'll be hooking up the carb and reeds and radiator, as well as wiring it all up. I got swingarm bearings and new tires on order. So now all I need is a piston and rings and this thing will be ready to rip! Here's my progress thus far:

I'm not one to abuse the clutch, but some things need to be punished! Like my RM for example, as soon as that thing is going I'll be thrashing it for all the money and misery it's put me through

Technical / Power Valve Bolt Keeps Loosening

The bolt that connects the push rod and the powervalve itself. Its the number 5 screw here:

I tried cleaning it, making sure everything else was functioning properly, nothing is broken and everything is in spec. It was fine until i took a long trail ride and it just randomly stopped working. I took the cover off and saw the bolt backed all the way out. Even when I screw it in really tight (not to tight, I don't want to mess up the threads) it'll come loose now within 10 minutes of riding. It literally backs all the way out and then the slotted metal piece pops off the power valve and renders it useless. While I have it appart for the third time I'm doing a top end, so I got a few days to mess with it. I'm just at a loss right now

Definitely check the power valve. The same exact thing happen to me, it was fine for half the ride and then it literraly just stopped working. Had NO high end power. Took the assembly apart and found out the bolt backed out a little on the arm that pushes the valve which stopped it from opening the PV for higher revs.

Make a shelf and do what Burt did.

  This is awesome. I may actually do this. My girlfriend already thinks I'm crazy, so this will just flow with everything else.

I do have a few destroyed ones hanging up in my room, they make for interesting conversation pieces.
