General Two Stroke Talk / KDX 200 or a KTM 200
« on: April 11, 2012, 01:36:05 PM »
But with the klx300 forks internally they are the same as KDX forks, and at that point since your not hauling as on it, it would be kind of pointless.

So are you telling me it was a pointless swap too?

I put KLX 300 forks on my KDX, and despite people telling me that it would be no better, it was definitely an upgrade.

Technical / Rear sproket drop?
« on: March 26, 2012, 07:47:47 PM »

If I read this correctly he felt it was already geared too low.  Dropping to a smaller sprocket in the front is the equivalent of adding three teeth in the rear.  Making a bike already geared too low, seem unridable.

How do you figure it's 3 when the ratio is 3.85 with the 14/50, and 4.1 with the 49/12?

Regardless, 1 tooth on the back is a waste of time. It won't make a noticeable difference.

I don't know what you had prior to the change, but it you went to a 12 front from a 13... its like adding 3 teeth in the rear.  What was the sprocket size (front and rear) prior to the change?

Do the math. It's like adding 4 teeth on the back.

IMO, 1 tooth on the back is a waste of time. You'll never notice a difference.

General Two Stroke Talk / Neck Braces (with poll)
« on: March 20, 2012, 01:43:28 AM »
I bought an EVS thinking it was the smart thing to do.
To make a long story short, I stopped wearing it after the third concussion in 2 seasons. The final (and very bad) one from a very light crash on a sand track. I'm still aware of the dangers, and wear a neck roll now instead.
If you go down and your head can't move, your brain might and then you're concussed.

Technical / Whats he truth in terms of premix ratio?
« on: March 10, 2012, 08:43:59 PM »
Edit: The above was posted as I was typing this, but I agree 100%.

The harder you run it, the more oil you need. I believe in 32-1 for my MX bikes, but in my KDX 220, which is woods only -  and I'm not good in the woods, I run a synthetic at 50-1. I know 2 people, both very fast woods riders (1 gold medal ISDE, 1 factory rider) that both believe strongly in, and use 100-1 opti. I have a 2 stroke generator. It'll run all day long at 3600 RPM, so being a light application, I'm running 75-1 in it right now.

This is the best advice for premix, IMO

http://www.maximausa.com/tech-tips/oil-migration.php

I use Maxima 927 in my RM 125 at 32-1. If I ride lightly, I get spooge like crazy. If I wring it out, I get nothing. I think that says something, and backs up Maxima's recommendations.

General Two Stroke Talk / Rode a 2012 KX250F

I rode my buddies 450 a few years ago. I expected to be blown away by it, but it felt like I was riding a tractor.

1 tooth on the front equals 3 on the back if your final drive ratio is 3-1. Your is 4-1, so 1 tooth on the front would equal 4 on the back in your case.

Technical / Lithium Ion Batteries? Are They Really Better?

Those battries have internal protection. If they are shorted, even for a fraction of a second, the protection will blow and renders them useless.

I've been using this one

In my KLX 250

and this one

in my Swift GT with 12-1 compression for the last year without issue.

Don't use a tender on it. It doesn't need it, and may (or may not, I'm not 100% sure) damage it.

My car sat for the last 2 months in winter storage, and it fired up last weekend like I had been driving it all along.

General Two Stroke Talk / husqvarna 125
« on: February 19, 2012, 11:45:49 AM »
They're quite popular around here. The local dealer always has great deals, and I've seen new 125's under $4000. The guys here who have them, love them. I looked at a street plated WR125 about a year ago, but they're so tall, my feet were at least a few inches off the ground on either side. Word is that the motors are very stout.

No EPA in Canada  :P

I know some people. It might be doable.

If I had some time and money to burn I might consider putting an 800cc skidoo etec  DI engine into a Porsche 914. Even keep the belt drive to a differential for the rear wheels. Lots of room for serious expansion chambers! That engine is supposed to be good for 160 HP.

I'll retire in 5 years, and one of my retirement projects was to build a tube chassis kit car. I had always wanted a Porsche spyder, but lately, I'm thinking tube chassis, hand made aluminum body. My engine of choice would be a Rotax 2 stroke. Even if I have to put something else in to pass inspection, then swap the smoker...

I guess I'm a little late. Anything you can spray on the frame will get worn off where your boots rub on it.
I used spray on bed liner on my RM. Nice light textured matte black finish, and tough as hell. It looks really good.
