maybe if we can pursue this issue:
Typical rebuild costs
2 stroke:
Crank-$200, Piston-$127, Bearings/seal kit-$65, Gasket set-$78 = $460 and can be done in 3-4 hrs.

Mods:
Full Pipe kit-300
Aftermarket complete cylinder head- $179 with 2 dome choices.
Port/Polish cylinder and piston-$220

4 stroke:
Crank-$237, Piston-$275, Bearings/seals-$65, Gaskets-$156, cam chain-$75 = $808 built in 6-8 hrs

Mods:
Full pipe kit-$652
Complete cylinder head mod using your head-$1200-1500 (Ported/Polished, stronger valves, springs, cams)

Lets do the math here.....ahhhh....I'll stay 2 stroke

Too bad it wasn't Buds Creek, I could have shot down there while back home. Could've even brought the helmet cam for the practice laps. BTW, I heard through the grapevine, Due to AMA and TV copyrights BS, a pro rider cannot have a helmetcam. Just what I was told.  ::)

We need a thread strictly dedicated to up-to-the minute updates. No posting, no conversation, just from the crew on the road with him.
We're with ya all the way, Rock on!!!

Though they are strong for bicycles, they could never hold up to the abuse a mx bike would give it. They would bend too easily and not recover and most likely crack.

General Two Stroke Talk / Re: Are 2-Strokes making a comeback

I know the word was leaked at the dealers show in Indy a few months ago but even what I gather from the younger gen. as well as dads at the tracks is, They are following right in suit of the American lifestyle. LAZINESS. No mixing gas, less jetting, less rebuilding and easier to ride without alot of work involved. They can lug around or hold it to the rev limiter without fear of blowing it up (to an extent).

What's funny is I can rebuild 3 times for the cost of their one and do it in 1/100th of the time.
topend: 2stroke=30 min, 4 stroke= Sat Afternoon.

Either way, IMO, it's gonna be a long recovery for the 2 stroke to come back until the younger kids realize just how much fun they are. And as long as the "factory" continues to out-cc the 2 stroke in race classes, it'll be hard to really compete.

All this makes me wonder how a bike like a Service Kawasaki KX500AF would compare in the Open class. For $11k, that's not much to a decently sponsored racer.

well, I've been lurking on this site a for quite awhile and finally registered. So I'll intro myself with some pics and vids. I don't ride much anymore, just support my kids. BTW, I love 2 strokes and my son hates 4 strokes and loves pounding on them on the tracks. Especially when he runs the 250 in the lites class. But he usually runs open with it.

My son is now 15. Started on a kx100 at 11 and is now on a 125 & 250. My daughter is 9 and now on a kx65.

The current bikes:

And their Compilation vids I've made:
