Technical / What would give my bro's bike more power?
« on: December 30, 2009, 08:24:33 PM »
My brother has a yamaha xt250 (it's a 4-stroke), and it lacks EXTREMELY in power all around. it's brand spankin new so we know it doesn't have any recent engine prob's. the problem is, it always boggs down when you reach the high rpm, and it has  terrible top and bottom end power. we considered getting an aftermarket exhaust for it but that can cost up to $800 for a full kit. so if there is some way to take off the rev limiter or adjust it's peak or just sumthing that would help the engine get more power. thanks for ideas.

Hey Spencer, When i bought my 250 it came with a professional (aftermarket) owners manual, and some really good info on suspension settings and stuff. so if you want to come over to my house sumtime then we can search the manual and the suspension info if you want. (bring your bike of course). Also, my suspension is set for a guy over 200 pounds and i'm only 140, so i also need to adjust my suspension. So if you come over here we can work on our bikes. also, didn't you mention that Mr. Hedges has a compression tester? I'd like to borrow that sumtime. anyways, consider the request cuz if we work together on the bikes we have a better chance of getting them both right. chow. P.S. yay christmas break is finally on!!! w00t!!

Technical / Re: How do I check how healthy my engine is on my YZ250?
« on: December 04, 2009, 05:27:23 PM »
i bought my bike used and i checked the filter and it was clean and new. my friend has access to a compression tester so i think i'll use that. i haven't made any mods to the engine yet but it came with an fmf fatty pipe and shorty silencer so if that makes a difference....i do know it increases torque, horsepower, and powerband range, but if it effects the life of my engine i wouldn't know anything about that. anyways, thanks for the advice you guys!

I just recently got a 2007 yz 250 (used), and i was wondering which is the best way to check the life of the motor, or see how much time i have left on the engine before i have to replace it. I don't have the knowledge of how to test for this kinda stuff, so some advice would be nice.
