General Two Stroke Talk / Re: A knocking noise in my engine...
« on: April 17, 2010, 12:43:28 PM »
So your saying that the bearing connecting the con-rod to the crankshaft might have melted together? if so, how could i be able to move the piston up and down at all? also, right where the con-rod connects at the bottom, there is circular steel circles on each side of it and i think they connect to the con-rod, but anyways, on those steel circles directly parrallel with the con-rod are some heat/burn marks (blue, purple, yellow all mixed) and they are only in that one spot. it's almost as if part of the explosion from the piston up top get's down to the con-rod. or it might be from the bearing getting over heated and causing the connecting cylinder attached to the con-rod to burn. that makes sense.....

I got my cylinder off and i took a look at the piston and it was fine. but then i pushed the kick starter down but it won't go down. so i took my magneto cover off and spun the flywheel by hand but the piston would stop in the same spot as with the kick starter. so i spun the flywheel backwards and it did almost a full rotation before i felt resistance. right before the piston would go almost completely up, it would get resistance, but only in a certain area, then it would rotate freely until it reached the previous position. I can see the connecting rod and it looks fine but would it be something with the bearing then?

This place does pipe repair and they are really good...

They also have some tips on how you can fix your own.

If you do it yourself please take a before and after photo.
It says $60 plus s+h so how much do you think the total cost would be?

It could be the bearing that goes between the crankshaft and the connecting rod. It happened to me once on a 150 sx. First a knocking noise and later it broke. I couldn't move the kick starter at all, as if the piston was seized. The repair was not super expensive, but it was costly.
how much did you pay for all the neccesary parts and what are all parts that you needed to replace?

Thanks for all the advice, i'm pretty sure it has something to do with the connecting rod or piston skirt. I almost have the cylinder off so i'll be able to see then.

I was riding at a sand hill and did a nice wall ride but i crashed at the end of it and my bike started to make a clunking/ knocking noise in the engine. at first i thought it was the exhaust pipe banging on the frame but when i listened closer i heard internal noises so i know it has something to do with the piston. i just want to be sure...
I took my piston head cap off and the spark plug and they were in excellent condition! :) but what i don't get is when i looked at my piston, it looked fine, but when i would push the kick starter down, the piston would go up but not down. I can push it down with my hand, but it won't go down on it's own. something is preventing it from going down but i don't know what. i'm gonna take the middle/ sleeve/ cylinder or whatever you call it off and see if there is anything broken. it can't be the connecting rod or the camshaft could it?

General Two Stroke Talk / Dent in my pipe...
« on: April 16, 2010, 08:43:03 PM »
The one problem with 2 strokes is that they have such a big exhaust pipe. now i know it looks really cool but they can get dented really easy. especially if you fall. like I did... anyway, now i have a big dent in my pipe and even though it doesn't affect power or torque (from what i can notice) it really affects the look. it looks terrible! any suggestions on how to get that dent out?

General Two Stroke Talk / Shifting Problems...
« on: April 05, 2010, 07:54:55 PM »
I went to the track for a ride and about 3/4 of the way through my bike wouldn't let me shift past 3rd into 4th or 5th. it was quite muddy and my skid plate caused build up with the mud and dried so that was what i thought the problem was. but when i got home and cleaned my bike, it still wouldn't shift. help plz!!

well thanks for the advice you guys, now i won't hold back as much when recommending a bike for my friend. i still feel a little unconfortable about it, but the kid still has to stay on his tt-r for another year so maybe he'll get some more experience. i just thought that since a 125 2 stroke is a man's bike that it might be to powerful enough for him. oh well we'll see what happens.

You see Caleb(yz250), I am not completely wrong, a 125 two stroke is a pretty tame bike, and if he is just beginning on it, he doesn't have to full throttle it
true, true. i think if the bike isn't right for him (if his dad let's him ever get one) then he'll just learn the hard way. i'm just trying to be cautious. but still, i noticed sam was getting a little cocky or too confident when he talked to me so that's one thing that bugged me. cuz if you get to confident then that's worse cuz you don't know what's coming next when you actually ride. he said he was better than evan on his 125 but i wouldn't believe it until i see it cuz evan has been riding his dr-z for almost 3 years.

I have a friend who has been riding for a year now and he rides a yamaha tt-r125. now he is getting to big for his current bike and wants some more power and bigger bike size. he has to stay on his current bike for another year so he has plenty of time to choose another bike. my other friends are recommending 125's(2 stroke) and 250's(4 stroke) to him already but i don't think this is such a smart idea because he has only been riding for a year and it's on a bike that doesn't even have the power of an 85. I tried telling my friends that it's not a smart idea but they still think it's ok. now it's not a huge issue but it does take alot of thinking. i know from personal experience and from riding 2 stroke's only for my whole life that jumping from a 4 stroke tt-r 125 to a 125 or 250 would be stupid and dangerous. extremely dangerous! buti don't think we'd let that get in the way of our friendship. my other friends say that this kid has lotsa potential. which is true. but he's only on a tt-r. i remember when i was on my pw80 i could ride that like a pro, so i think that when my friend hops on another bike, he'll adjust more to a real dirt bike and not a mini. I don't want to be a know-it-all around my friends, i just want to recommend a good decision instead of a stupid one. so i was hoping you experienced guys could give a little advice i could pass on to my friend. after all, we all want to have enjoyable and wicked awesome rides, not dangerous ones.

General Two Stroke Talk / EFI two strokes?
« on: March 07, 2010, 04:49:34 AM »
there' all this talk about 2 strokes being fuel injected, but is there acutally gonna be a motocross bike with efi? so far all the talk is about the road bikes and 500's and stuff but i'd like to know if there is any thought towards the dirt bikes. I've seen articles about a ktm 250 efi but is that really going to happen? Also, if 2 smokers are less complicated in everything (weight, engine, etc.) then why is it so difficult to get efi on them? why hasn't it happened yet? They say that an efi 250 2 stroke would be lighter, faster, torquier, more fuel efficient and have less emissions, and they are cheaper by far, so why aren't they scrambling to get it done? It just doesn't make sense...
