Yeah I read that. I wasn't aware of all the drama, but I am still looking forward to see them in action at HighPoint.

It hasn't been mentioned, but make sure your air filter is cleaned, oiled, and you used grease between the filter and air box. If it is in fact dirt (not saying it is without seeing it) poor filter maintenance is your main cause of it getting in there.

I don't know, for some when DC says he is a fan of two strokes I believe him. I have read more than once in past issues of RX where DC has written that 4 strokes are getting too fast and that the noise of modern 4 strokes is one reason many small local tracks are getting shut down. I really cannot blame him for supporting the factories with the 4 stroke agenda now however. If he didn't, he wouldn't have much of a future. It's easy for those of us not making our living running a magazine and race series to say the things we do. Once you get into his position things change. That doesn't make it right or that I agree with him of course.

I am not on the inside at all, but I have a lot of free time (off all summer) and I am passionate about two strokes :) , so I am happy to help anyway I can.  I doubt we will ever see a 250vs250 series because the factories have invested way too much money into the 4 strokes to go back, but I would love to be wrong here.

I remember watching a video once of Fred Andrews racing a 125 and he was really fast on that little bike. It's one reason I got interested in riding small bores off-road, because of the way he handled that bike.

Was'nt 1986 the first year Yamaha came out with the white/red color scheme?

In the US, 1985 was the year the YZ's went to white.

Good looking YZ's, I have always been a fan of the 80's bikes.

Technical / Re: Silencer Packing
« on: May 23, 2010, 01:30:50 PM »
LOL. I wanted to find out for myself so I did repack my nephew's CR80 Expert silencer with the pink stuff. It actually softened the exhaust note at the silencer, now I realize how much sound is actually coming from the pipe itself. That must be some thin metal used on the OEM pipe.

Your air screw should be about 1-1/2 turns out; anything less than 1-1/2 or more than 2 and I always re-jet.

the genuine Honda service manual is a great investment.

+1, I always recommend when someone buys a bike investing in a service manual, it's the best money you'll spend if you work on your own bikes. Rebuilds are easy, but you won't really be able to separate the crank and replace the lower rod bearings on your own without the proper equipment. Crank bearings and seals in the case, top end (piston, rings, etc) all easy peasy. Rebuilding the crank is better left to a pro if you've never done it before because it needs to be perfect.
