Technical / KTM 250 HELP
« on: November 06, 2013, 01:33:56 AM »
Usually dirt gets into the carb via gas tank. Why people run fuel filters.

Technical / APT Smart Carb
« on: November 01, 2013, 02:17:32 AM »
I did do one to his custom yz250 build with an apt here on the site, posted dyno results that showed that it had taken off the bottom and put more on top. Maybe it flowed better? If I do pick one up I would probably do a 36mm. Either way his build was questionable, pipe/airbox/pipe mods etc.. At least they fixed the overflow problem, apparently with the APT and Lectron its better to let the bike run if it falls over(It will stay running with these carbs), as if it dies the cases would fill with gas. APT just fix this with a shut off valve that stops gas if tipped to far. Lectron has yet to counter this, but I still like them more as they have had a decent product for the last 40 years.

Well, it might be a decent product, but they've screwed over a ton of people who have waiting for them close to a year now. They just now finished testing for design flaws, 2 years after they put the product on the market. If you get one wait another year, then pick one up, if not just pick up a lectron. Some people here bash smart carbs, and they are partly right. They give you what you would get from perfect jetting.

Technical / Piston/Cylinder diagnosis

Even if you had I know people who do this with no problems. See if the shop will hook you up, if not just toss a piston in and be done.

210psi? uh...
Hit the walls with a scotch bright pad, it should clean right up. I'm sure you meant 110psi, so my thought is maybe the rings didn't seat correctly?

Imo, I personally like my back end loose, not on the straights obivously but in the chops and berm, right. Look at Carmichael's riding style.

For the price its pretty trick, if you could put out a weight figure I can compare it to my stock tank.

From a recent article KTM supposedly has fully operational FI 2 strokes, but they stated it would make the bikes to heavy and to expensive oh and the best part, unreliable(And the EFI 4 stroke aren't)!

The negatives are almost non-existent and are merely an excuse, look at Uniflow's build and tell me its not doable? He's just tinkering around the shop, imagine what they could do at a manufacturing level if they haven't already and are simply holding out(Which is the most likely scenario). KTM stated that it would make production more expensive and bikes more heavy, my-ass, then why do all their 4 strokes have EFI??
