General Two Stroke Talk / Re: Direct Injection - for and against
« on: January 22, 2010, 11:56:13 AM »
I think the Ossa injects into the crankcase, doesn't it?  Besides, I think there's been some talk about some special carb (3-circuit, was it?) that can match the emissions performance of injection without need for a laptop.  Because seriously, if something on a carb goes wrong, you can tear it apart and fix it.  If some little electrical thing gets fried in the injector, chances are you're gonna be SOL until you can wheel your bike up to someone with a few phD's in circuitry and computers, by which time your weekend will have long ago been ruined.  And that's assuming it goes wrong in camp.  What if it goes wrong out past the Devil's Tee (the magical intersection at which a bike always breaks down) and you're 20 miles from the truck?  With a carb you might have a chance at getting it fixed, but with an injector I suspect (though I'm not 100%) that it would be a bit more difficult.

I think that brake down behind repair 20 Km out can be happening on any dirtbike, old or new, carb or FI.
If that crank lets go,you are stranded and can only hope you are not allone. ;)
All you need then is:

Here's a quote from Chad Reed from Racer X. He was talking about the knee jerk reaction of the AMA penalizing him for pushing Stewart's head after the Pheonix crash. Of course it turns out that in the crash Reed's hand was broken and he was pushing him to get off his hand!!

Quote

Let's see, the AMA is angering fans, privateer racers and now the top level pros.... does anyone else think it's time for a change???

I used to be a AMA member for many years because of racing in the USA.
To race Vintage I am a member in the AHRMA organisation as well. After I learnt what the AMA did to the AHRMA I quit the AMA and will not be a member anymore until drastic changes are happening.

And then the 4 strokers came, and everybody wanted one because it was "IN" and well advertised.
I sold a bundle,I raced them, testet them in order to know how to answer questions from my customers.
KTM 400-450-...Not bad when they new and properly set up,but....
they went older, and the first customers needed some big overhauls(or big repairs). Most of them could not do the repair(no special tools or infos).
And then came the BILL.And they woke up and said"Holy Cow" I better go back to my 2 strokers where I could do a piston swap in 3 hours myself.
And so a lot of my customers will go back to 2 strokers.
And that is what I can reed a lot on KTMTALK too....

General Two Stroke Talk / Re: Racer X disappointment..... :-(
« on: January 22, 2010, 11:06:18 AM »
Just got the latest issue of Racer X (March 2010) and got near the end of the magazine where they have their 2 tribes section. This month it's between the 2-stroke and the 4-stroke...

It's actually kind of funny at times!

The disappointment is when they "ask" what is their favorite web site is the 2-stroke answers  twostrokesonly.com while the 4-stroke answers Thumpertalk.com (of course!)

So figuring that I must have missed this great web site about two-strokes, I headed over to twostrokesonly.com and what do I find? A site called 4-strokes only!! Not only that but there is almost NO information about two strokes on that site.

Aren't there other options for the two-stroke fan? Or is it that they want to show the two-stroke as being done? Sure my feelings were hurt that they didn't mention this site... but aren't there other options that show the two-stroke in a positive manner?

My question is, besides this site, what other two-strokes sites do you visit that have news and information about these machines?

Like I mentioned before,I found your site trough a GERMAN offroadforum.
A lot of this guys can reed english but wont speak or write it.So they just lurk. ;)

Talking about smoking 2 strokers.
I am using on almost all my 2 stroke bikes a LECTRON carb and mix OPTI 2 Oil 100-1.
Ergo,no smoke...

This should be pretty easy for all you vintage hounds on here.....

What make, model and year is this from??

I am far to late for this to name but would have being easy for me because I have on.(at least same type of engine.

This 175 Rotax engine is out of a TNT from 1975

Hey Jetzcorp... I like vintage bikes as much as the next guy, it's just that you have a true love for them.

Just because we look at two-strokes from different perspectives gives our discussions much more depth.... I really enjoyed the fin thread!!

As a KTM dealer for so many years,I had to demonstrate the newest models up to twice a season.
That ads up to a long chain of motorcycles. But then a few years ago I realised that the bikes got taller and my legs shorter.A lousy little out of balance mistake would pin me under the bike and the competition, which I had just past after a long fight,re passed me again with a smile on there face. >:(
So,remembering the seat hight and the seat comfort of the good old bikes,I began to use the Vintage bikes even in the modern class, and Bingo,no pinned under bikes anymore. And the funny thing,I did not come to the finish line LAST,..
Some riders who first smiled (at the startline) did not smile at the finish line. There is a complete NEW challenge now. ;D

Hello all.
My name is Helmut Clasen and I am a newbe in this forum.
Interesting that I found this forum trough a tip from a member in the German Offroadforen community.
I am a KTM dealer since 1975,but semi retired since 2006.
That gives me the time to play with my MC babies.Sachs-Hercules-Zuendapps and lately Can-Am.
I still do some racing to stay in shape but I use only Vintage bikes.
Back like in the good old days of my motorsport.
There is only ONE new Motorcycle I could be interestet to own, just for the fun and feeling of it, a E-BIKE. :D
