Total goon attack but still had the time of my life. :D

Trying desperately to get the damn thing to turn. :D

Mad whip skillz!

Almost ate dirt 'cause I hit neutral on accident.

It seems this technical section will be my favorite one, and in order to not clutter it up with a dozen different threads, I'll keep my dumb questions regarding bike maintenance and repair constrained into this one thread.

So, I've got two bikes, '01 or '02 kx125 and '01 or '02 kx250 which are definitely cursed and work at purely random intervals.

Not entirely sure on the exact model year as apparently both bikes have a VIN that should not exist. 10th digit on them both points them to be a year '90 but that's simply impossible.

The '99-'02 service manual's procedures for L3 and L4 models (ie '01 or '02) are the ones to follow with both these bikes but it doesn't differentiate more accurately which one they might be.

First issue comes with the 250.

I just got the bike back together after taking it mostly apart but now the idle speed is way higher than it ever should be. It's not screaming with full throttle, more in the low-mid range, and adjusting the idle screw has no effect on the rpms.
This is definitely because of something I did or did not do while putting the bike back together, but any suggestions of what might be wrong are welcome so once I start taking things apart, I might have some idea what to look for.

Another thing, told you they're cursed, I noticed that when the bike is on its side, it leaks transmission oil from where the clutch attaches to the motor(see pic). Not a lot, and only when it's laid on its side, but still I'd like to fix that. Now, how severe is this and will it require splitting the engine case, or is there some smart way to go about fixing it?

Technical / KIPS removal trouble
« on: July 18, 2011, 10:35:45 AM »
Alright, somebody help a dumbass out.

'02 kx250. Service manual "helpfully" instructs to turn cylinder upside down and to remove exhaust valves. Now, if anyone could tell me just how do I go about doing this? It seems to be the most simplest of things as no one has bothered to explain it anywhere, but I tried to just pull those things out and they don't move with any reasonable use of force, and I'm not going to risk breaking them before I get more info.

Those three thingies. How the hell do I remove them so I can clean that power valve properly?

Technical / Throttle gets stuck in wet conditions
« on: June 23, 2011, 11:21:19 AM »
Pretty much what the topic says. Had forgotten the problem but now that the 125 works again got a reminder today while riding in the rain.

So, riding in wet conditions will make the throttle stick open eventually. Any ideas what might cause this and how to prevent it? The cable returns like it should, even when the throttle sticks, so I'm suspecting the slide but have no idea why or what could be done to it.

Technical / Sand/dust prep
« on: June 08, 2011, 07:33:11 AM »
Hey, I wonder if anyone in here knows some useful things to prep a bike for sandy and dusty conditions?
I do most of my riding at a very sandy track that has no irrigation system and is very rarely watered so most of my riding is done at dry and dusty conditions.

I did get a filter skin some time ago and it was one of the most useful purchases I've done as far as dusty conditions are concerned.

Technical / '02 KX125 engine dies at high rpms
« on: March 01, 2011, 06:29:08 AM »
Went for a ride first time after a top end rebuild. Bike starts up and idles fine but every time I get into high rpms and then release the throttle, the engine dies instantly. No bogging, no cutting or skipping or anything like that. It just dies without any warning.

I'm seriously at a loss as to what might cause it.
