General Two Stroke Talk / JD Jetting...any reviews?
« on: December 12, 2012, 01:29:43 PM »
Why spend $75 or more on a jet kit when you can do a little research and buy oem jets, needle for about half that? Most bikes come with a manual which will have detailed jet and needle settings info.
components that have no part #s  seem to just muddy the waters if you will.
Have bought jd kits before, but realized later that the above advise is a better solution.
my 2 cents.

notice it has a 17 or 18 tooth countersprocket, seems super tall?
no clamps on coolant hose.
carb looks like the flatslide mikuni from 2002 and earlier rm85? look closely at the area above the carb, two throttle cables? and they kind of disappear?
look at the tires/tyres clearly some photoshopping going on there, or maybe thats a secret tread pattern?
No lower radiator hose. No sparkplug cap.

Get a big plastic dead blow (hammer) and learn how to mount tires without tire irons.
next time you do a tire/tyre change have someone video and post it up. would love to learn this technique.

Technical / Clutch slipping.. need help
« on: September 01, 2012, 04:35:46 PM »
what brand 125?
These are brand new parts?
As stated earlier presoaking a wet clutch fibers is mandatory.
Check the obvious first clutch cable play? yes you want no pressure on the cable when lever is in released position.
Are there any grooves on the fingers of the clutch basket's? Or grooves in the splines of the inner hub? These wear grooves will prevent smooth clutch operation.
Did you check the pressure plate for wear? they will develop a ridge where the plates slip against the plate on the inner edge of contact surface.
IMHO

General Two Stroke Talk / 2012 or 2013 YZ125

We also live in Florida, near Tallahassee. We also have shopped all over for a respectable price on new bikes. We first bought a used 08 model that was seemingly in good shape. We have spent a lot getting this bike right, rims spokes, shock body, fork internals, linkage, swingarm, subframe, repairs to damaged threads, Motor full rebuild, exhaust, reeds, every bearing in the engine and on the chassis. I honestly believe we could of paid retail for a new bike and would of saved money.
Our next Bike we purchased new from Capitol Cycle in Macon Georgia for $5500 with no sales tax because we live out of state. This was the best deal we found within 500 miles for a new 11' model. Point is, its all the little things that you have to fix with any used bike that add up. When someone says they have a clean 08 model with 10 hours on it, you can pretty much count on it having a 100 hours on it with poor maintenance to boot. Buy the new bike. Long term you Will save money. IMHO

Good
Works Connection clutch perches and their radiator braces.
No Toil air filter oil and cleaner
Motul 800 2T premix
Motul Transoil 10w 40 with esther
Suprisingly good Outlaw/Pit Posse super seal air filters
Bridgestone M203/204
Vortex sprockets RK chains either MXZ or MXU
V Force 3 reeds

Bad
anything made by PC Racing, but especially their air filters.
Outlaw/ Pit Posse clutch perch they use a proprietary lever that breaks off easily.
MGX graphics peel and delaminate  ><img src=" title="Angry" class="smiley"> Sloow to complete too.

Yes a high fuel to air ratio is rich
Not a high fuel to oil ratio that should be constant, at 32:1 or appropriate ratio.

Technical / carb sputter...at a loss here.
« on: June 10, 2012, 02:59:51 PM »
Our experience with superminis and 125s that a bike that was previously jetted correctly its usually worn/frayed reeds that causes sputter. Have you inspected the reeds for wear or chipped or seperated edges?
We find the need to replace our v-force reed petals around 20 hours. The corners chip and the edges swell then do not seal as well resulting in the bike sputtering.
Hope this helps. Good luck

This has been common knowledge since 2007. Yet, people still buy things that say Honda on them, even I have a Honda powered pressure washer.  :o

Technical / Putting in new top end and reeds, opinions.
« on: May 19, 2012, 06:31:03 PM »
If you compete in motocross running a bored out mini is cheating in the 85 classes. Also ask anyone who has gone through the supermini phase of youth racing. Supers are high dollar, high maintenance, and are the hardest bike in the world to sell.
Keeping it stock also helps with resale.
You can strip and replate at stock bore size with better plating for around $200 but if you bore you can add a $100 to the price. Big bore pistons are more expensive too.
In small bore applications cast pistons work quite well cast pistons retain there size under heat better than forged pistons.
Wiseco makes forged pistons
Wossner makes forged pistons
Pro X makes cast and forged pistons
Vertex makes cast and forged pistons
OEM is cast.
I would reccomend the cast vertex piston. In motocross application by an aggressive rider ring at 10hrs and replace top end including wrist pin bearing at 20hrs. And yes get an Hour meter.
Thats our schedule on our yz 125s For trail riding play riding intervals are much longer.
