The extra torque is where a 300 shines compared to a 250.  It is geared a bit differently than an MX bike but this just goes to show how competitive a 300cc 2T can be against the 450's.

There is also a rumor that Husqvarna is developing something similar.  Only time will tell though!

Back to the original question -  ;D  it seems that the KDX is the way to go.  Look around, deals can be had.

Do a plug chop test, that is the true measure of your jetting.  If you ride it around the yard for a bit, and it stutters on top then clears out, your main is too rich.  If you feel poor response down low or at  1/8 to 1/4 throttle - your pilot circuit is rich.  Your plug should have a nice coco/tan color on it after the chop test.

I have always used the V-Force Reeds/cage on my bikes.  They come stock on KTM and Husky for a reason!

A good rotor and pads will help out..if you really want to stop better go with an oversize rotor!

Technical / Colorado jetting and spark plug suggestions? 2008 yz125.

Check your manual.  If not I always recommend JD Jetting Jet Kits.  They work great - and they cover a range of altitudes.  http://www.enduroarmor.com/jd-jetting-jet-kits/

Handguards, Skid Plate, Radiator Guards FMF Gnarly Pipe, and if you so desire, a lighting kit.  Depending on how well you ride the power of your RM, V-force Reeds, or Boyesen reeds will wake up bottom end power and compliment the FMF pipe nicely.

General Two Stroke Talk / More good stuff from vital

It will be a forever debate.  It will continue as well when they start to allow 300cc 2T bikes in the 450 class and they start spanking the 450 Thumpers.
