I'm brand new here so hello to everyone.  I have a new project bike; a 1981 Kawasaki KE100 that I've been trying to get running.  It's been previously stripped of all it's lights and battery but seems basically stock other than that.  It wouldn't run more than a couple seconds when I got it.  I got a factory manual off Ebay and went through the carb since it was leaking gas...turns out the floats were installed upsidedown so the bowl was flooding all the time.  Now it idles fine but I can't rev it up without it bogging down and stalling unless you feather the throttle gently.  I also checked the plug and gapped it, checked the oil pump and adjusted it back to factory setting.
I was revving it to try and "clear it's throat" when it slowly died and now has an ominous sound that's coming from the cylinder head area.  It idles fine again but doesn't sound good at all.  It really sounds like terrible pre-ignition but also has a squeak to it.  From the manual it looks like these bikes don't have an ignition advance?  I thought maybe that was stuck in full advance or something.
I made a short video so you can hear it too.
Any ideas?
