General Two Stroke Talk / Converting 99-02 KX plastic to '07 KX plastic
« on: September 13, 2012, 05:15:10 PM »
Love my 02 kx, but it's looking a little long in the tooth.

Has anyone tried converting the '07 plastic to fit a L series KX?   I have the front fender, but the rear fender & side panels look tricky.  Maybe the rad shrouds will bolt on a little easier.    Someone on youtube converted his '97 to '07 front fender/shrouds, but I haven't seen anything like it done on the 99-02 models.

I like my 02 but compared to the '03-07 KX, the rear end & side plates look droopy and dull.

As she is today:

I put a '07 KX250 2t front fender on my '02 and it bolted straight on.   Before I take a chance ordering a front numberplate and new graphics.. can anyone say if they've been able to fit the newer style front numberplate (like on the new four strokes or even the '03-07 kx250) on a 99-02 KX125/250?

General Two Stroke Talk / Race gas - what to get?
« on: July 26, 2012, 04:18:41 AM »
It felt snappier with the race gas, so I'll probably go with that for a few months.  If I can't burn through 5 gallons in six months I'll just rejet for 93.

Why do you think you need race fuel?

This is a new/old bike.  Previous owner sold with a half a tank of race gas, which I rode out & bike ran smooth as silk.   He is a mechanic and had it jetted spot on.

When I drained the last little out of the tank/carb and switched to my preferred oil (supertechniplate) and 93 pump gas, the bike immediately started pinging on hard acceleration.

Has anyone here tried the new VP blend MRX02?  How about the C-9 premixed?

Any other blend I should get if not one of those?

problem solved... need we say more? :)

They are effectively out of business:

We are currently out of stock (the last two dB Snorkel kits went to the Balearic Islands).

Due to the current cost to manufacture the dB Snorkel components, we have decided to discontinue sales.

Let?s hope someone out there picks up where we left off.

I think some KDX's came with twin wall exhaust, don't know which ones or if you could make it fit.

The inlet on a KX250 is 50mm, the inlet on a KDX220 is 39mm.  If something were going to work I'd have to get something fabbed up for the inlet area.

As for the wrap, it doesn't look to bad especially if you paint it black after you install it.

True, when it's fresh it could look OK.  I'm thinking down the road after multiple mud rides, washes, ect.   I'm thinking it would be worse than keeping black plastic looking good.

General Two Stroke Talk / Fi/DI or Carb

All of the above.

Without DFI / other new techs, two strokes will dissapear. It's as simple as that.

With it / them, they are the most logical ICE.

I intend to keep my currently carbed 2ts forever, but I want  modern, clean, efficient, Ultra tunable 2ts to add to those.

The downside is cost.  IF they were implemented by one of the big 5, it would still be new and would definitely drive the price of the bike up.

Certainly isn't going to drop the retail cost by a couple grand which is what would be more effective in helping get people back to the tracks.

Shame the Chinese aren't masters at something besides copying other people's tech (and often doing a poor job of it).

Those are interesting.  I've seen/heard one in person (on a KTM300) and the sound was less noisy than what you'd expect.  It gets into the fugly area though.

I wish I could get a Q Stealth silencer but they only made them for '03-07 kx250s.   The best I can find is the Turbine Core "Q SA".

Read a post somewhere about a guy who wrapped his pipe in heat resistant rubber or somesuch.  He said you barely heard the exhaust (he had a quiet silencer with dbSnorkel), but that you could hear the piston and air intake very clearly.  It was stil kind of noisy but probably not as obnoxious to sensitive ears.

Does anyone make a double walled (not thicker single walled aka gnarly) pipe for two-strokes?   About to order a Q silencer for my '02, already have a gnarly.    I could wrap the pipe but that would look fugly.

Trying to quieten it down a bit so I can get away with some short motos in my backyard.    ;D

Loved my scorpion mid soft tires. Hooked up great but I guess got a bad batch a couple years ago and had 2 come apart at the seam where the tread meet the sidewall. haven't had one since but I honestly believe those were bad luck I ran 3 before those that were fine and my brother and best friend ran them without problems. I would honestly suggest them to anyone that rides in soft conditions to mild hard pack

Another vote for the Pirelli mid/softs.  I've been using these front & back for over 5 years.. they wear pretty decent in hard stuff, too.

Hi all,

Just found a great deal on a '02 KX250 with a bunch of improvements (race tech suspenders, v-tech intake, PC pipe, 304 silencer, ect).   Has a new cylinder, and a spare cylinder in good shape.

The bad news is that the previous owner stickered the thing up.  There are stickies on the frame and swingarm.  I can replace the plastic which is also plastered with the things.

I can't even get a fingernail under the stickers.  How do I begin to remove them?

General Two Stroke Talk / 1999 KTM 380SX opinions
« on: May 24, 2012, 01:50:49 PM »
Hi all, new to the forum and found a local 99 380 for sale. I have a 640LC4 so the power shouldn't be an issue. I have a few questions..

1) How reliable are the engines & transmissions?

2) I've read a lot about jetting, head mods, JD jet kits, ect.. can someone 'splain why and how important all of this is?

3) I am very tall for a female.. not coordinated enough for basketball but love moto. How will this 380 fit me? I read where a tall rider on ktmtalk rewelding footpegs, raising bars with custom risers.. is the frame on the '99 tiny?

4) Was the '99 sold with an actual title, or MSO? If the latter, did the MSO come with "not for highway use"?

5) Is there a high output (100w or more) stator available for the 380?

6) Is there a large capacity tank available?

Thanks all.. love my '99 KTM 640 LC4.. but it's lonely in my garage after selling my RM125!
