General Two Stroke Talk / You call those Whoops??
« on: January 07, 2013, 02:57:29 PM »
So I was going to start a thread but this is a good lead in. I want to start off by saying that the racing was amazing...despite:

FOX news style reporting - Have you ever noticed that FOX News always picks a buzz word or line and beats it into the ground? If I hear about the RED LINE one more time, I might just buy a four stroke because I am being brain washed and it it just easier to be STUPID and think all this is sincere.

The Big BOWL TURNS - They were bowled, yes but nothing was very big. Goes back to other posts about "Made For TV" so no view angles are blocked.

The Big JUMPS - like the Wall, the Quad, etc. None were very big. I didn't see the difficulty. Even though the 250's didn't generally jump the Quad, it had more to do with protecting your line into and out of the corner than the ability to jump it. When they did jump it, no one was on them.

The Ruts and Track deterioration - OK, throw the woops into this as well. I can buy that they wanted everyone to make it unhurt through the first race of the year, but what I can't accept is the 'color commentators' continuously telling me how bad the track is getting and how rough it it. We race Vintage MX on 40 year old machines on rougher tracks than that - for 30 minute motos. Shut the F*$# UP!

But all my complaining aside, I was happy for Davey. He really showed them! I was also happy for Canard. Although not a fan, I respect he is wicked fast. I personally think his days are behind him. His injuries are not something you should expect to come back from at that level, but if he can stay healthy, I believe he is a real threat to the Championship.
Fox news?? Really,, ?  You could do the same comparison of MSN, CNN NBC, ABC and on and on, all reporters of any shape and size do the same thing.
Make your point about the racing, which was good and I agree with your racing assessment and leave the political stuff to the trolls.

General Two Stroke Talk / CR500 for sale anyone on here ??
« on: October 26, 2012, 05:01:50 PM »
Sorry for the bad picture, but the 250 in the background has never even had gas added to the tank, never been run. only stored.
I think plenty of people would like to collect new old bikes and almost new old bikes.

General Two Stroke Talk / 150f in 85 class argument over at ktmtalk
« on: September 13, 2012, 03:25:24 PM »
I have seen it up close and personal, attended AMA congress on the issue, and they shot down Honda on the 150 in the 85 class. But all this fuss over nothing. The 150 does not have clear advantages over the 85, even modded, they both can run head to head. we see it all the time at our local events , even many kids that ran 150r have went back to the two strokes, lighter, easier to move around and maintain. the 150 engine really is more two stroke like than any other bigger four stroke.
It has very little low end power and very similar top end style power. the pluses and minuses balance out. At races in the elevation, like powder mountain  a few years ago we saw the two strokes dominate with holeshots and the top of the class was two strokes.

Actually the stock forks are longer with the axle under hang, so more material there and the inner smaller tubes which are steel are also longer, so the fork tubes are heavier, then you have the lower steel cast clamp, that too is heavier, swap to billet trees that are much lighter. then the rear linkage,is steel, the steel pull rods, the super heavy steel swingarm, and steel bodied stock shock, the cast wheels and rotors, steel sprocket etc all are heavier. all of these parts swapped for lighter aluminum adds up to a big weight reduction.

Thanks, it took a little work to make them fit, one was cutting the battery box off the rear fender and making a section to fill the void. I also had to make mounting tabs for the side panels , shrouds and front fender. I am sure Kawasaki could easily make it work.

This is a build up I am doing for my nephew, I think Kawasaki should update the 65 to look like this.

The bike has custom billet wheels hubs and wheels running 15mm axles and three rear wheel bearings, billet linkage and adjustable pull rods, an aluminum swingarm, and GPX shock with 16 clicks rebound, 12 click and 2 turns of both hi and low speed compression adjustments , adds up to 9.5 inches of rear wheel travel.
the front is 8.3 inches of inverted GPX forks with 16 clicks of compression and rebound adjustments, billet trees .
The front brake is 220mm wave rotor with a dual piston caliper. and 180mm rear wave rotor.
Added the pro taper bars a billet shifter ,custom step seat . And then modified the frame and tank to accept the more modern plastics.

Adding up the weight savings from replacing all the steel, trees, swingarm, linkage, pull rods, rear sprocket, shifter, axle blocks, handle bars, We lost about 8 pounds!!
