Here in Australia a few mags have run such tests, most recently a KTM 250sx vs YZ144 vs 250f (not sure of manufacturer) they didn't go as far as to determine a winner, but provided lap times of each bike, personal preferences of each test riders and rebuild costs, no guess as to which bike was looking the best at the end (4T), but at least they are asking the question.
In the past they have run an article on KTM 450 vs Maico 490 mega 2 (bit of tounge in cheek) and a yz144 vs YZ 250f.
In the open class it would be interesting to see a test between the new KTM 350f and their existing 300 2t
The problem I see with test against 2T's is the mags tend to quote lap times, for most of the test riders this would be their first time on a 2t and of course their lap times would be slower than the 4t they have grown up on. To make it totally fair the test rider should be made to spend 6 months riding just the 2t, then time some laps and see the diff.
Just wondering is it the 125, or 144? I haven't got to ride any of the TM big bikes(125 and up). I did however get to ride this kid's 85 in 04 that I was giving lessons too. That thing was unbelievably fast. I weighed 180 at the time and it felt like I was riding a 125 that ran reeeeaally well. You are a lucky man John.
