General Two Stroke Talk / Renner RedBuuuuddd! on the 125.
« on: July 08, 2012, 04:19:06 PM »
A full factory YZ125 would cost Yamaha half of what it takes to support a YZ250F for a full season! Look at what Roczen did on a factory KTM 125SX last year after he wrapped up the MX2 championship, in one race he rode the screamer to a fifth place finish and looked smooth and comfortable! Two strokes continue to dominate the off-road world. Look at the top guys racing GNCC, Hare Scrambles, etc... all on two strokes!!! MX needs two strokes, give Privateers a chance to be competitive without going bankrupt on overpriced, overweight, ticking time bombs! AMA/FIM governing bodies need to pull their heads out of their rears and wake up, equal displacement would not mean the death of four strokes, only full gates at races. Privateers would be competitive, different conditions would favor different bikes (ie..2T vs. 4T), it would really revive the off-road and MX motorcycle market, and encourage forward thinking in terms of design an innovation amongst manufacturers!

AMEN to that.

Yipes man I never said they aren't trying to make money, though I do agree with the other post that there is a bit more of a love relationship with some of the companies.  Believe it or not some people do things because they love it and not because it makes them the most money.

My point is exactly what you said, who wants my money? Yamaha, by making the 2 stroke still, at least seems interested in receiving my money, but I think that KTM, as an example, is trying much harder to get my "2 stroke loving" money.  Last I checked this website was dedicated to trying to revamp and bring back the 2 stroke not drag it along cause it still makes some money for some.

Who's abandoned the 2 stroke the most?  Yamaha or KTM?

BTW this is good healthy debate and not at all meant to be insulting, so please don't take it that way.

its not all about mx bikes, there is lots going into both enduro and mx bikes from brands like ktm and Husq.

pfft for all I know Yamaha just had a bunch of left over 125s they are still getting rid of.  Not likely I know that was tongue in cheek.

In all honesty until someone goes FI there aren't alot of big improvements to be made on any of the bikes.

4
Bottom line who do you want to buy a bike from?

A company that is putting money into research and development into new two strokes

or

A company who raced for years and spent tons of money on r&d only to abandon a cause we believe in and lead to where we are today.

Sure the yz is a great bike but Yamaha has the power to bring it back strong but doesn't.  What does that tell me?  That they don't give a s**t about what we want.  If you want a yz buy a used one, don't buy new.  I find their bone they throw us insulting personally.

General Two Stroke Talk / Maybe not the bikes but the Tracks?
« on: June 04, 2012, 12:22:58 AM »
Exactly, we have a big problem on several levels.  As far as tracks go I would be happy if they just took out some of the gaps, leave the length that should make everyone happy.  It may be awhile till we, as two strokers, have enough power to get the tracks back in our favor.

No matter what I want to see this sport I love grow, and we can't do it if people are worried about crippling themselves.  It will always be dangerous but it could be made both challenging and safer.

Here is another thought I had after reading some of the posts.  I think as well that the tracks are designed for exciting TV.  Lets be honest though, most people watching are riders, a lot of folks don't remember or weren't around for the "heyday" of motocross.  More riders equals more viewers.  The sport was much more accessible to the average joe.  That's really what my post is griping about, we have alienated the average young kid from wanting to ride at the tracks.  Sure us older guys understand we don't have to go out there and be competitive to have fun but as a young kid if you don't feel like you can win or compete then race you won't.

Of course its not just the tracks as we all know its the bikes and the high cost of maintaining and owning them, which is one reason we are fighting this fight we have.

Something else I wanted to add, I see more guys going to local "tamer" practice tracks in my area than I see going to the actual mx tracks.  Yeah race days have bigger numbers but I bet they would be even bigger if we tamed the tracks.

Well guys I was reading through a thread on Vital about 450s being to much bike and maybe needing the pros to ride 250s and the 250 class riding 125s, which I would like to see just to get the 125s in the mix.

But, I don't feel like that is our real problem.  Its the tracks, sure we all like watching the guys launch over the triples but are these sky high tracks scaring off potential riders and getting our best riders hurt?

I know that I don't race anymore because I have to much to lose getting myself hurt on a triple.  Sure I don't have to jump them but that is almost as dangerous if "slow guys" are jumping them.  Call it fear if you want but the fact is I have personally attempted to get guys into MX and they won't say it but the crazy jumps scare them off.

Why can't we be happy with large table tops and large doubles.  I wish we would push to more traditional type mx tracks and get away from all this supercross nonsense.

I don't know maybe I am wrong and have just gotten old.

Yeah, I asked "hey is  that the bike that comes with the 150 kit?" (Dumb Look) and I get a hesitant "Yeah"

I actually like the guy, hes an older fellow and I bought my daughters ttr 50 from him and he was real helpful and probably going to get her a ttr 110 at the end of summer.  I can't wait, its fun to get a new bike even when its not yours and its a 4 choke.  I love zooming around the yard on the 50, going to really zoom on that 110 lol.  Its a good transition for her (9), she doesn't get to serious into riding and I refuse to buy her a 4 wheeler.  If I hate anything more than 4 chokes its 4 wheelers.

Anyway I am hoping I will be able to get me a husky soon.

Technical / My Bike is eating plugs
« on: May 31, 2012, 09:27:07 PM »
I cant keep my 03 RM250 from fouling plugs.  Last two rides it killed two plugs, at a plug a ride this would get expensive lol.

Anyway I chopped both plugs from my last rides and they both are completely black all the way down.  I am assuming from a rich condition.

My problem is it seems as though I should be jetted right and I am afraid to change to much without some advice.

My current situation is:

32:1 yamalube 2r (switching to Belray)
165 main
45 inter
needle on second clip
and stock slide.

Any relevant mods are just a carb spacer, and a flywheel weight which I don't think would affect much, stock pipe, fmf silencer.

I know this year model is notorious for awful jetting but there has to be a sweet spot.  I know many change to the #7 slide does anyone with experience know if this will really make this big of a difference.  I don't ride in it all the time but I am not putting around either, pretty normal woods/Mx riding.

Also any maintenance items that might cause this?  It has a fresh top end with a brand spanking new cylinder due to a Wiesco Circlip gone awry.  After last rebuild I had discovered the power valve actuating arm stuck open and thought that this was my problem but since fixing all of that its still happening.  Only thing that hasn't been changed in the last rebuild were the reeds and they seemed okay.  Maybe run 40:1?  I hate to change ratio, that seems unnecessary.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks guys.

Well went by my local Yamaha dealer today to pick up some premix oil and guess what they had?

Some Husqvarna's!  Unfortunately they only had one 125, but I am seriously considering buying one now.  I ride an 03 RM250 atm and really like it but it whoops my butt on the MX track and would like a tamer bike to compliment it.

Funny though I mentioned holding my guns on the 2 strokes and the salesman said something about them dying out.  I mentioned Huskys dedication and KTM's to keep them alive, also suggested he watch a hare-scramble or two and see how "dead" they are.  Also told him of all the bikes in here (pointed to the 2 stroke) that's the only one I am even remotely interested in.

I really hope we can someday see a rules change for the pros in the AMA.  I am getting tired of fighting this battle with everyone.

From the looks of Unadilla I don't want him there for MXDN.

Technical / Re: How often should i do a top end?
« on: August 18, 2010, 04:06:17 PM »
I second the compression test method, I feel many of us do top-ends to often because we read somewhere we needed to do them all the time.

The compression test is the best indicator.  I changed mine about 40 lbs under as well.

Technical / Re: Overtightened and torn 2 cyl head bolts. Please help!
« on: August 18, 2010, 04:02:56 PM »

I speak from experience please for the love of your engine block go to a machine shop, depending on how bad its screwed up it will only cost you about 30 bucks.

Btw as others have said make sure you use a torque wrench next time, head and cylinder bolts are probably the most important ones on your whole bike.

General Two Stroke Talk / Re: What is your favorite Dirtbike?
« on: April 03, 2010, 10:14:50 PM »
My first motorcycle I ever owned and still my favorite.  Loved it, someday I may be able to get another one.  I  one dragged raced a a-hole kid in my neighborhood on his new four stroke three wheeler and kicked his spoiled little arse.

Oh and I still have a scar about 6 inches long on my chest where the metal fender tried to kill me.  Also check out the oil injection and stylish expansion chamber

Oh oh I am no longer just lurking
