General Two Stroke Talk / Re: Four strokes are bad, seriously...

I saw more than one new fi 250f's just sputter and die, only to restart after a few minutes at the Amatuer day after the National this last weekend at Freestone. Looked like a fuel problem possibly. ?

She loves the weight, easy starting, and power( she wants a 144 kit on the mod bike ). The cost is a major factor as well. She has a stock bike and a mod bike that cost less than 1/2 the price of a 1-2 year old used 250f. The maintenance is also a major benefit as well for me. You are right about the well funded and really fast kids moving up. We were at Cowboy Badlands a couple of weeks ago for a Ponca qualifier and the kid that won the 125 two stroke only class was crazy fast. My daughter races that class also. She tried a 250f but it was just to big and heavy. The KX's are the perfect size for her.

General Two Stroke Talk / Been away for a while

Let me begin by saying sorry it's been a long time since I posted anything.I have looked in on the site often and continue to tell people I meet at the tracks about it.  I have been extremely busy with my daughter's racing, and her practices (2 bikes, chasing the amatuer Nationals, and all that entails). I posted some picts and recent videos of her in the photo section. Well, I have some time now as I am stuck on the couch for a few weeks due to surgery. And for those who may remember me it isn't because of my KX 500. Stephanie is one of the few Women to ride a 125. So, any words of support and encouragement would be greatly appreciated. This girl loves 2 strokes, and her 125's in particular, and tells anyone who will listen all about them. Thanks alot everyone , Andy.

Right now she sits 3rd in points in the 125-250 Women's Non Pro, and 6th in the 125 Two Stroke only Class. She went 5-5 for 5th at the Women's Cup. They combined Beg,Nov,Int together. She had a great battle with the woman who ended up 6th, and they were rapidly catching 3rd and 4th and passing atleast one Int. in the process. Here are some more picts from Freestone. They raced the same national track as Dungey and the boy's did on Saturday.

I am going to try and put up some picts and video of my daughter and her KX 125's. I am learning this photo bucket thing as I go along so I hope they show up and everyone likes them. She really loves the 125's she has two,one stock and one mod. She is on her way to Ponca this year and if people are interested I can post her progress as she goes. The photo was after the Women's Cup at Freestone on the May31st. The video is taken at Cycle Ranch in Floresville Texas.

For Sale / 1992 KX500 $2500.00 obo
« on: December 31, 2009, 10:21:45 PM »
I am selling my KX500. I have brought back to race condition. I really enjoy bringing 500's back. I am the second owner of this bike. I installed many new parts and upgrades back in January last year. The new parts I put on were: plastics and graphics, gas cap, MSR bulge bars, MSR shorty levers,pro-taper pillow grips, Michelin rear Maxxis front, steering stem bearings, fork seals oil and bushings, FMF pipe and silencer, exhaust gasket, o-rings and springs, gripper seat, MSR wide foot pegs, and probably lot's of stuff I can't remember right now. I haven't put a lot of time on the bike since I did all the work. The biggest upgrade is the rear shock. I replaced the 92' shock with one from a 2004 KX500. The difference is huge. this bike handles really well now. The motor runs great. This open bike needs nothing to go race! Jetted for sea level using C-12 and Maxima Super-M at 40:1. I ride it regularly for MX. This is no garage queen, it's a clean open bike that is ready to race. I have a ton of extras that come with it from spare frame to shifters, kickstarter, wheel bearings and such. I love this bike, but with Steph raceing full time I need the money to help with getting her to the Amatuer Nationals at Ponca.  I will crate and help set shipping or can deliver lower 48 for a fee ( basically gas money ). We are going to be at Oakhill raceway in Decatur Tx. on the 26th of June and Ponca at the end of July. I'll bring it to those locations for free when we go. The Video's are of me puttin' around with my oldest daughter a while back at Cycle Ranch in Floresville Texas. The bike runs really well. Thanks for looking. Andy 210-569-3172

Technical / Re: You choose (but you had better have reasons)
« on: December 31, 2009, 08:33:19 PM »

Sounds to me like the 3 circuit carb is a no brainer. I'd like to be able to play around with one. I too do not see the real benefit of DI on a bike, other than marketing hype. There is no real performance increase that I can see, however there is some added complexity and additional points of (electronic) failure.

What I WOULD like to see is a return to oil injection. The idea of mixing gas at one ratio for all riding conditions/speeds seems silly to me. Can anyone give a valid reason for not moving back to oil injection that does not involve manufacturers cost? The variable pump seems to me to be the perfect solution for metering just the right amount of oil when taking engine RPM and throttle position into account.
Juliend if memory serves me most oil injection systems were given the heave-ho because they couldn't meet demands of racing. Most of the designs I remember used throttle position to determine how much oil to spray into the mixture. The problem of oil starvation would occur at closed throttle, high rpm load conditions. CanAms in the late seventies used oil injection, many of the bikes around here were seizing up during long fast races. It was determined the cause was people were chopping the throttle when brakeing comeing into corners. No throttle no oil. The solution was to wire the pumps wide open. You couldn't just cap it off and pre-mix as this would starve the main bearings of oil, something in the design of the rotary valve Rotax motor during that period. I think by 1980 Rotax made changes to the motors that allowed premix without the main bearings starving for oil. At least that's what I remember.

Jetzcorp I am impressed. Your arguments are lucid and well thought out, problem is you are arguing with someone who has no intention of looking at things from another perspective. This individual doesn't want to confuse the issue with facts.  The good news is his village called and they want him back. Keep up the good work.

Kent Howerton, Roger Dcoster, Danny Chandler                                                                                        Kent because he's from here. Very very fast, has helped me numerous times with my riding( especially when I was a kid). He's also very approachable( I never saw him turn someone down for an autograph request).                         Roger because when I was 12 years old in 1977 at the Trans-Am race at Lake Whitney Texas he took the time to talk to me and let me sit on his works Suzuki's. Man what an impression he made on me( I still like Suzuki's).           Danny because the guy had juevos the size of bowling balls!!!!!!! Man was he fun to watch ride.

Happy to sign the petition. I also made comments to the effect such a closure would have on interstate commerce. Most people only think about the effects on local businesses. What about all the gas stations, hotels, resteraunts, etc...? If I cannot ride at this park in California all of the money I would have spent in the various states traveling from Texas does not get spent! Arizona, New Mexico, you folks would not be getting any of that travel money pumped into your economy. Doesn't seem like much? Let' see, $400.00 for hotels, $200.00-$300.00 for food, $200- $400.00 for gas. Just think this is for ONE family of 4, so you can see how quickly the money adds up. My point is these land closures affect us all in bad ways.

General Two Stroke Talk / Re: Who's is racing a late model 2T in 2010?

Just wondering is it the 125, or 144? I haven't got to ride any of the TM big bikes(125 and up). I did however get to ride this kid's 85 in 04 that I was giving lessons too. That thing was unbelievably fast. I weighed 180 at the time and it felt like I was riding a 125 that ran reeeeaally well. You are a lucky man John.
