Oh he's pretty pumped :) Talked with Pete and Jimmy and hopefully this can turn into a regular thing. We'll see, if not at least he got to do this one test.

As for preferring the 250F this time around he said it hooked up better. He dominated on both motos but chose the 250F this time around.

I enjoy hearing about tests where they test back to back. In this case your brother felt the 250F worked better.

Thanks for the updates.

They did an awesome setup for this test. 4 groups of similarly skilled riders and each one would do 1 warmup lap and then 3 laps balls to the wall racing (from a dead stop) and then hot swap the bikes right away and repeat, and pass them onto the next group. I have to give it to Dirt Rider, they went with an idea from a rider and got it all thrown together in very short order.

Man, SubTex, that is totally cool! I'll bet your little brother was pumped! I'm a little surprised that he preferred the 250F over the 150 at Racetown. But a 250 four stroke is pretty forgiving. Even so, that 150 would be just plain awesome to throw around.

Shot of the 250F getting worked on by Jimmy Lewis, seems the day prior they wore the clutch out and it finally went out just before my brother was due to test it. New plates and it was good to go.

Shot of him on the 250F after the clutch was fixed.

Shot of Pete jumping on the 150SX, he and my brother were the paired riders (3rd moto today again, out of ~4?)

I have a ton of action photos on a shitty camera that I can not find the cable to. So once I find that cable I'll upload those, these were all taken by my BlackBerry (which died after taking shots of them repairing the 250F).

Yesterday my brother favored the 250F by far, but had suspension issues. At the end of the day after the other bikes were put away they had the KTM rep sneak in and lower the height of the 250F and had my brother rip around the track some more. End result, loved the 250F @ Racetown and the 150SX @ Piru.

Watching the pros rip it on both bikes was amazing, and the 150SX won all but two motos (one when it was driven by my brother, and another time earlier in the day driven by a pro racing against (FMF racing guy).

As for the reviews of the bikes beyond that I won't say, as the testing might still be in progress and it might expand. Lots of surprises came out of the tests, and hopefully more will come. :) I'll post up other pics once I get my USB cable for the other camera.

Got back from Racetown 395 around 2. All sun burned and had even more of a blast today. I should have took my CR250 :( (Was told after the fact it'd have been fine lol). My little brother seemed to be the talk with the other test riders because he was the only non-pro there lol, not that he's super great (novice about to step up into advanced), they just couldn't figure out how he got to test the bikes :) KTM guy came out and had a couple bikes they were testing / showing off, so I'll post those up as well.

Anyhow I'll post pictures and other stuff up later. Out to go riding myself now lol.

a buddy of mine was there today too.  they had the ktm 350 out there.  he asked jimmy lewis about it and he said "perfect..."   i'm not sold on the 350 idea. but it sounds interesting.

Yes they did, the rider on it was tearing it up but the bike was on the limiter a lot more than a 450 ever is (sounded like a 250F on steroids). Didn't look like the brought the 350F out towards the very end though.

The FMF guy (also number 88 haha) apparently had a 350F as well, thought it was a 250F but my brother said it was a 350 so meh. I'm torn on the idea of a 350F, the rebuilds on that thing are supposed to be very similar to the 250F, but it puts out 450F power (albeit very high in the RPM range, almost like riding a 2 stroke in having to constantly clutch it and shift to keep it in the power band). I'd love to see how it does against a 250 2 stroke :)

Also forgot to mention he was sporting his TwoStrokeMotocross.com stickers on the bike haha (front fender in the one pic, and rear fender). :)

That's too cool!! Thanks!!

Did you meet the Dirt Rider folks? Was Pete Peterson there?

Everyone that I've personally spoke to that has ridden the 150 falls in love with it...

I didn't no, I was letting my little brother go out there and do it on his own. Plus, all the guys were out riding their bikes. I thought there would be others there to ride that weren't test riders but it was only my little brother. I did talk with Jimmy Lewis in passing, but for the most part everyone was busy. (I think there were ~4-5 DirtRider folks, an FMF guy, the KTM rep, and the other regular bike testers).

Also ran into John Basher from MXA (parked next to us), he was out riding his KX450. Didn't really bother him as it looks like he's still recovering from his big crash @ REM Glen Helen a couple months ago.

Guess honda and mx sports are pretty tight!
Why couldn't this just be like a schoolboy 1 class? That way honda could still have their cc handicap, but other kids could show up to race as well. How can this even be classified as racing? Way to continue the assualt on the two stroke MX Sports!

Well Honda couldn't get the AMA to bend to their will so they created a new class in a new venue. Doubt it'll be all that successful though.

Badness! Man, I'll bet the had a blast. thanks for the update!

Oh he had an absolute blast. He kept riding the 150 / 250 even though they pulled off and were done with the timed laps lol. All in all, he was actually pulling in some great times. He complained about the 250F tiring him out pretty bad, but he loved both bikes.

Now he won't shut up about buying a new 150SX lol.

Also forgot to mention he was sporting his TwoStrokeMotocross.com stickers on the bike haha (front fender in the one pic, and rear fender). :)

Just got back from Piru, little bro is wasted. He got to ride and test on the 150SX and 250SXF, he submitted his critiques of both bikes and had an absolute blast. I only got a few pics on my BlackBerry I'll try and post up (from a distance since I was baby sitting his YZ125 while he road on the KTMs), he did quite a few laps on both (all timed) and was invited back for the rest of the test.

They also had the KTM 350SXF out there that they tested towards the end of the day, bike seemed to be constantly on the limiter like the 250Fs, ouch!

Now he wants a damn 2011 KTM 150SX lol... We'll be selling the 125 soon and picking up a 2010 or I suppose 2011.

Pic of his bike with the DirtRider tent in the background (cut off in the pic to the left), he was off to the side under the tent grabbing his helmet to go jump on the 150SX

Here is another of him entering the corner just before the step-up on the 150SX.

I gave up trying to use the BlackBerry for photo's, the delay sucked and even standing on the track they'd come out blurry from movement or be the back end of the bike or the very front thanks to trying to predict / not predicting the delay lol.

If you see a two-stroke and hear a four-stroke, chances are there's no dubbing going on, but there's just some guy riding a CRF about 80 miles away and that's drowning out everything else.

Speaking of dubbing, remember the good old days when they did it the other way around?

First Blood - Chase scene on motorcycle

They did the same to the XR100 in Terminator 2 haha... That and the bike had like 20 gears.

If I got a dollar for every time this worn out phrase has been touted by folks on other message boards, I'd have enough to buy a brand new two-stroke!!

This thread on Vital MX says it all. A guy who is interested in buying a brand new two-stroke. Yet is unable to buy one from his local dealer. Or any dealer in a two state area for that matter!

http://www.vitalmx.com/forums/MotoRelated,20/Vote-With-Your-Wallet,997759

So what's the deal? There are other manufacturers that continue to build, sell, service and update two-strokes. Will we support these smaller manufacturers or wait for the Big 4 (okay Big 5) to wake up, update their badly dated two-stroke machines, and begin selling them again to the two-stroke fans?

A disturbing rumor that I heard a while ago is that all of the other manufacturers are waiting to see what big red will do before they release a two-stroke. From all the negative news from the Red camp, it's sounds as though that time will not be coming from Japan or Austria (.... India)..

So it appears to me that our only real hope is to buy new machines from those manufacturers willing to build what we want. When I buy my next bike, I know who will be getting my money.

If they're waiting on Honda to release a 2 stroke we'll never see any new Suzukis or the like.

I really wish Suzuki would bring their 2 strokes back, and even Kawasaki if they fix their motor and actually get it to compete with the other 2 strokes. If Suzuki brought their 2 strokes back I'd have one in a heart beat, I kick myself for passing up on a clean 08 a while back (I'll find another I'm sure, but I'd love a new one!).

If Yamaha updates the 2012 2 strokes with something beyond stickers or a gold colored chain / wave rotor brakes I'll have a coronary, thats if they're even around then. With how abysmal their sales have been for the 4 strokes I wouldn't be surprised if someone up top kills the 2 strokes to save some money and push their 4 strokes harder. (Yes I know the smart thing would be to kill off the thing bleeding money (4 strokes) but I can bet they wouldn't do that).

Mike Brown was on a KTM four-stroke and finished 4th....

Maybe KTM has lot's of four-strokes in their warehouses too??

lol ouch, that'd explain why they weren't touting their 2 strokes considering their top tier 4 stroke(s?) didn't do so well.

I know 99% of the bikes on the floor of Chaparral Motorsports that are KTMs are 4 strokes... Some as old as 2008 (quite a few) and they aren't moving... Same with the other 4 strokes.

The couple 250SXs they got in sold the minute they hit the floor (I bought one of them lol) and the 300s etc... sold pretty damn quickly, I think a couple 2 strokes are still there but not many.

SubTexel - I did see that photo but thought that it was from last year!!

I find it amazing that you have to DIG to find out that a two-stroke won a race!! LOL

You guys are correct if it had been the 350 or other four-stroke lawn dart... they would have been touting all it's virtues...

"Yes ladies and gentleman the new four-strokes are superior to any machine ever built. With only double the displacement they can be competitive. Plus when your finished racing you can use the leftover parts for paperweights. Fill your Christmas list early with decorative paperweights.!"  :P :P

Haha I'm not sure if it was from last year or not, but it's a two stroke at least! :D

You'd think they'd be all over how their 2 stroke dominated so easily. What were the other KTM riders on? Might be the reason they didn't brag about the 2 stroke.

Is that a picture of him to the right of the release from the event in Las Vegas? (Shows him clearly on a 2 stroke).

Funny thing is I too starting digging to see what he won it on after seeing it on TSM (I kind of figured he did seeing as it was posted on here but still haha). You're right about no one really touting the bike he was on (KTM mentioned nothing of it). If it had been a 4 stroke I am sure they'd having been bragging it up about how super awesome the technology was that got him the win.
