2010 YZ250 Set up

OK Guys, I need a little help.
I just picked up a 2010 YZ250 and am in the process of setting it up for AMA District 37 Hare & Hound racing.

I have been riding and racing a 2002 CR250 since 2003 and know how to set one up in a weekend to feel like home, I also have a 2004 Service 500AF and have it set up just the way I like it.

Here is the trouble, I rode the new YZ last weekend on a 45 mile loop and the ergos feel horrible, I'm afraid I will never be comfortable on this thing.

I know the springs are too soft, I'm 6' 215lbs. The handle bars feel like they are in my lap.

I think I will try some CR High bars on it, And change out the springs.

Anyone know if you can make a YZ more CR like?

Maybe putting the yz engine in the cr frame?

Red plastic?    Maybe look at the Hondas and see if you can duplicate the setup as far as bar height and clamp bar position.....i'm 6'3" and almost always have to get a clamp that i can move up and forward so i feel more comfortable on any bike i own.hope this helps

I may stop off on the wa home from work tomorrow and pick up a case of beer and some new blades for the sawsall...

If you still have the CR or know someone who does, you can take a tape measure and start taking notes of foot pegs to seat, and go from there. I'd go nuts with that tape measure and just measure every thing on the CR, and put the measurements on paper. Then you can measure the YZ and see what can be done and what can't. It's a lot of work, but you might get it close to the CR. Oh yea, make sure you have a 12 pack with you.

I ride an 08 YZ 250 which is the same bike. I run trails and tracks. I am 225 and run the stock springs. I found that backing off on compression and leaving rebound alone the bike works well on roots and rocks. Packing does not seem to happen (maybe I am to slow). I ride right in the center of the bike and let it move around under me and rely on the great suspention to make up for my mistakes. Been too long sine I owned a current CR to make a comparison. Great bike, good luck. FYI bleed air from forks every ride (not every day, every ride).

I checked over both bikes with a tape measure, I am surprised at how close they are. The biggest difference was the handle bars.
I put on a set of CR High Bars, And the ergos feel much better.

I won't get to ride until this weekend, I will set the sag before then.

I have it working pretty good now, I went to CR High bars, And resprung it for my weight. It feels much better.
I did a short ride on some trails close to home. I quit before i pissed of the neighbors

I couldn't find anyone to ride with, So I went to Johnson Valley and raced my first national
Holly crap am i tired...
They didn't have the results posted by the time I left, Ill see them on the AMA sight in a couple of days.
I rode pretty well for the first time out probably top 5 in the senior beginner class.

The bike has great power everywhere the engine is perfect (I guessed on the jetting 175m 49p) and it's really close. It was a dead engine start, The bike started first kick in gear and I never stalled it the whole race, I hit the kill switch when I got back to the pits 40 miles later.

Suspension is like magic in the woops and rocks, I was having a bad time in the silt and sand, I'm gonna try 5mm more rider sag if that doesn't stabilize it I will get a damper.

Overall not bad for guessing at all of the settings and no test time, I give the bike a b+ and myself a c.

I was alone and had no one to take pics, I will buy one from the photographer and post it when i get it.

When I signed up and got the numbers for my new bike, The lady offered me a AMA racing sticker to put on my truck, I told her I would not promote the AMA until they abolish the 4 stroke handicap in pro racing.

She had no response...

I'd use these settings as a baseline for aggressive riding and click away from there...

Forks:
C: 13 out
R: 14 out
slide them up ~5mm up in the clamps depending.

Shock:
HC: 1 ¾ out
LC: 8 out
R: 8 out
Sag: 100mm
