Go the 295 kit, that would be awesome, Im wondering if you can get a 360 kit for the YZ like ya used to for the older 89/90's n stuff, i would love an 89 YZ 360

Ok what about the 295 kit for this bike? Anyone rode one? I will be racing MX and Hare Scrambles down in Georgia

I've heard of a couple of people running the 295 kit and their fifth gear going off consistently. Not sure if its the same model or same kit or anything but I'm pretty sure I heard it somewhere on here not sure who from.

When Dogger did his (godlike) CR project he sent basically his entire engine off to be cryogeniclly insert-technical-phrase-here anyway the outcome was major loss in friction, less wear and twice as strong.

I can understand the fifth gear going its putting a tremendous load on it. Anyway as I said this is just something I've heard and is possibly inaccurate. Just something to consider if you're gonna go the 295 kit.

Good luck mate going really nicely so far

Didn't Ohlins make a 360 kit for this bike?

I think I saw a 2004 YZ250 with a 360 kit on it somewhere. Not on here but somewhere.

Just a thought here, I know transmissions can take a beating, and I know gears are pretty tough, but keep in mind the gear boxes are meant to handle 250 cc's of power, maybe a little more, but I don't think that a 250 trans is designed to handle the torque and power of an additional 110 cc's. I'm no engineer (yet, I'm going to school for it) but you wont catch me running a 360 kit on a stock 250 trans. Just my 2 cents though.

Yeah that was my point too. You could swap it out for a long ratio tranny maybe but that wouldn't do much for mx. If you do find a 360 kit, I'd look for ways to get your gears treated and strengthened. As I said Dogger had some pretty sweet **** happening inside his powerplant so you might want to contact him

At the moment I'm content with my 250. When I feel the need for a bigger engine, I will buy a cheap roller and put a 500 in it hahaha.

Oh ok, hahaha, Yeah I would say only run the 360 kit if you can replace a few trans parts just in case something goes wrong.

The engineers at Yamaha would have designed a safety factor into the transmission so it would probably handle the additional torque of the 360 kit.Ohlins would have had this in mind.

Maybe but I wouldn't stake too much on it. google Ohlins 360cc kit problems or issues or something like that, see how frequent they are. Sachs may be right, he usually is. 360 cc's is alot of load on the gears though

Yeah not planning on a 360 kit, but i am trying to decide on the Eric Gorr 265 or the 295 kit. I am now back in the states now and getting everything together to get this back on track. The frame is here and everything else is on the way, except the cylinder which is still in the decision process lol. I will post pictures soon.

I have a Eric Gorr 295 with mo' better power band set up for high test pump gas.  Added a flywheel weight, V-Force reeds, Pro Circuit pipe and silencer.  It has sick down low, mid range hit is manageable and still pulls on top.  I also have a FMF Fatty pipe and a Gnarly pipe as well as various FMF silencers.  Truthfully changing the pipe does not make a notable difference, they are all good.  Bike is absolutely sick in the woods, it is hard to stall and the power is about as close to 4T as a 2T can get, very smooth, hooks up great in hard pack conditions and still rips on top and steers with the rear as a 2T should.  I highly recommend it for woods riding, and it does great at MX too!
