Motor to Pipe Gap??
« on: August 08, 2010, 07:22:29 PM »
There is a small "Slit like" Gap around the top of the pipe where it connects to the motor. Is this normal. Or do I need to fix it?  Just trying to get her ready for the 1st ride! ;D

Its around the top where its hardest to see "Of course" Idk if this is a problem or not. It may be normal but if it isn't im gunna fix it now.

Looks like they have the wrong (weaker) pipe springs on your bike.

They don't really look like proper exhaust springs too me, they seem really thin.

They are not the proper springs.
Get some from a dealer, they are pretty cheap.

You need new springs and o rings
part number 5mw14642-00-00 and 90507-20052-00
Looks here
http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/parts/home.aspx
just click on proceed to parts catalogue, then use the drop down boxes at the top of the page to find your bike.
Up comes the parts catalogue for your whole bike, you can even order the parts this way.

Yes the springs do need replaced, cheap and easy fix.  When you take the springs off, I would also pull the pipe off, clean everything, and add some RTV hi-temp silicone sealer when reinstalling the pipe to ensure a air tight seal. The RTV hi-temp silicone can be purchased at your local auto parts dealer.

Everyone's touched it. Quick and cheap maintanence. The springs and gaskets are some of the simpliest you fix'em parts on the bike. You'll get the feel for what your bike needs and how often the longer you ride it.

Now quit nit pickin the damn thing and go ride. :P ;D
