A 250 two stroke should be in the 170-240 range. So I wouldn't say 175 is low enough to go boom like Ford said, but you are getting close.

Did you test the bike cold or warmed up?

I would definitely ride that and not think twice about it.

I had an '81 about 20 years ago. I miss that bike sometimes.

Awesome. I am not really a Maico fan in general, I like all vintage bikes. So when I saw that test I thought some guys here might like it. There is also a Penton test. Here is a link to the full issue:

Awhile back a friend scanned in a bunch of old Cycle magazines. I forgot all about it, and I am not tired at all tonight so I was reading through them. I thought some might be interested in this bike test I came across in the January 1976 issue.

You have to use your scroll bars unless your screen is big enough (I have a laptop and have to) and the test concludes on page 4, bottom right side.

Man that '79 is sweet. I would love to pick up an MX bike around 77-78 and refurbish it. Notice I said refurbish, not restore, because restored pics are too pretty to ride and I would want to ride it  ;D . I started to do an original restore on my 1988 KX, but figured it would be more fun to just set it up like I need for the local trails and ride it and not worry about breaking or scratching it. I did completely redo the engine over winter though.

If it's not cracked, I say ride it.
