The rumor that makes the most sense to me (that has been posted here before) is that KTM has the DI design ready to rock and roll -- when they are forced to bring it out due to updated Euro pollution regulations.
Now if they DID trot out such a beast, and did the dance in the US of A to make it streetable, would I buy one? I would think so. But I am a strange bird over here in the states. Yamaha in the mid '80s had a tough time selling very many RZ350s. As amazing as that bike was (IMHO anyway) it had a small target market, i.e. the folks that did not have a negative impression of the noise/smell/unreliability of two stroke bikes.
Oh, and in case any of those anti-2T folks are reading this -- I owned one of those RZ's, and put 40,000 miles on it on the stock bore(s). A grin on my face the whole time. And never had to adjust a single valve in that time.
All this to say I agree with TMKIWI.
Unfortunately.
But of course a glimmer of hope to be surprised does live within me still. ;-)
