If more and more people keep building new bikes with 2 stroke engines the manufactures will have no choice but to get back on board

I can't believe that Manufacturers believe that there isn't a market for big bore 2 strokers. At least people have the notion to build a bike they want. If that were to pop up on the market today at a reasonable price(Not $10,000) people would be lining up for it. I bet it pulls like a mother.

Remember that is 10k kiwi dollars and a new 350sxf is 14k so it is not a bad price.

Would love to find a blown motor 350 roller around here.... The swap sounds cake. drill out the swingarm pivot hole in the back of the motor, fab new mounts and drop it in.

I've always been under the assumption,at least since the early 80's that any 2-stroke over 250cc. was considered a big bore...? I know the old ATK-260 2t was a very,very small bigger bore at best & the KTM 300's are a slightly bigger bore than a 250 2t but anyhow I absolutely love the 380 Katoom in a modern 350 frame & I actually thought that Service Honda would jump on that combo!!!  :) I would love that 4 sure!!!

I can't believe it is for sale. After it was just finished. Has he even ridden it? You couldn't pay me enough to get rid of that awesome bike. The best 2-stroke motor ever made in a modern chassis. I would love one.

Went riding this AM with a friend, he has a '01 YZ250 that he has setup for trail riding (pipe, flywheel weight, and some other misc stuff that I can't remember). We switched bikes for awhile so I got to sample his YZ and he was on my KTM380. No, sorry, not a 2012 model!

Anyway we blasted up a trail and did a couple of somewhat steep hills. The YZ is ok but when I get off of my 380 and on to the 250 it now feels like a 125 to me -- despite the mods to his bike that really smooth out the powerband and give it some oomph off idle. Even when I revved it up it did not seem to go all crazy like. Sure it makes plenty of power when its in the fat part of the band but my 380 just destroys whatever the tire is attached to at the time. Just too much HP except for very special (and pretty rare) situations. So what happens? you ride in the low and midrange -- in the lazy ho hum range of the motor. Very relaxing for the engine AND the rider. And if a 450F challenges you in a straight line or up a hill? Well, you have the afterburner in your back pocket.

He said my 380 is a beast. Power everywhere and insane power when it revs out. Exactly right. He said it just doesn't matter what gear your in. I find that to be the case too, I constantly reach for a 6th gear -- even when going at a not so fast speed. I guess my point is that a real big bore -- like my 380 -- really has the possibility to be a extremely easy engine to ride. It makes enough power off idle to climb some good stuff and save you when you blow a line and are stuck counting the power pulses. The 250 not so much. It really seems to make sense to me to have "real" open class 2T bikes. Yet nobody seems to want to build a 350+ cc scooter. I just don't get it. And I just am not holding my breath that one will come out in mass production anytime soon.

I love my 380. So do I look for a '07 or newer 250F at a good price to update the chassis?  I don't think I have anywhere near the skill necessary to justify that upgrade. But I sure have fun on what I have now. Hope I can ride again SOON.

And that is why cityjockey I am on the look out for a 380 motor.
My 300 is pretty good , will lug pretty good and walks over 250's but the thought of something with even more power is quite appealing. ;D

good news guys the bike is pretty much sold, hopefully the buyer comes through tomorrow and the 450 is gone and can get on a 125  :P

I have seen that referenced here and there but know nothing about it. Is that a current product? I thought I read that it can cause reliability problems? If so it must be looking for more peak power than a 250. I think that's a mistake if it causes things to break. Should be roughly the same HP but with a wider spread -- MUCH wider. Anyone know more about this? If the manufacturers will not build a true open class motor then it is up to the aftermarket vendors.

Anyone remember the Ohlins YZ360 kits?

I believe in the late '90s Noleen offered the kit here in the states. Now, they only sell replacement parts, like piston kits. A good example is hard to find!
