Yeah John that,s alot more info than in 1986. I remember when it happened and was thinking if the O SHOW was so on why couldn,t he pass Ricky and David. David Thorpe sure took a bashing from mxa, for years,I don,t think that was fair and felt sorry for Thorpe who has alot of class. I went to a old school deep sand track, for my 2nd race of my life on a 1987 cr125 with a wp shock that had a blown shock seal, I broke the stock shock ripping clay whoops. The wp shock with a blown seal had about 7 inches of travel,I never rode sand before and signed up for vintage 5 yr. old bike class. There was about 30 bikes on the line,95% where on 500,s, 2-250,s and 1-125 me,alot of guys were experts. I was last on the start, then went to work on the edge of the track, pick a bunch off. Then I would pass them coming out of corners, the 500,s swamp in the braking whoops, on the 125 I,m wide open 3 gears higher and on the exit of the corner I went by them like there chain broke.haha There was alot of contact in the slower parts of the track, 1 section was a off camber then a steep 1 line drop down a hill, with a sharp rt. rut into a very steep up hill where I inched passed 500,s , because I let the rider on the off camber go, brake check the guy behind me, then rail the right corner be 4 the steep uphill and sling shot up the 1st few feet then have my butt off the back trying too hook up and get the pass. The 500,s couldn,t believe a 125 was passing them there, towards the top of the hill were only going about 10mph,so your inching past them with both engines screaming, awesome. I finished 3rd, I was pissed I wanted 1 more lap, I had the leaders in front of me and was running them down. You have to be more tactical on a 125,sometimes patient- set him up 2 corners from where your at, back off a bit use a diff. line, then carry your speed outside to inside on the 2nd corner, the 125,s corner speed is a huge advantage.
